From the video it looks like one of the Anarchists broke the statue - and other demonstraters went off on him. And then the cops (with helmets) came to break up what was hopefully a severe beating of the Anarchist.

I doubt it will give any pause to the majority of the protesters though - on who is behind the protests, what they ultimately want, etc.

Absolutely. Difference is that "karma" is some sort of impersonal force careening around the universe, while God is Knowledge and Wisdom, and Justice as well as Mercy.
