Precious Promises of the Book of Mormon
Ensign ^ | October 2011 | Thomas S. Monson

Posted on 10/27/2011 7:27:20 AM PDT by Saundra Duffy

Many years ago I stood at the bedside of a young father as he hovered between life and death. His distraught wife and their two children stood nearby. He took my hand in his and, with a pleading look, said, “Bishop, I know I am about to die. Tell me what happens to my spirit when I do.”

I offered a silent prayer for heavenly guidance and noticed on his bedside table a copy of the triple combination. I reached for the book and fanned the pages. Suddenly I discovered that I had, with no effort on my part, stopped at the 40th chapter of Alma in the Book of Mormon. I read these words to him:

“Behold, it has been made known unto me by an angel, that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, … are taken home to that God who gave them life.

“And … the spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest from all their troubles and from all care, and sorrow” (Alma 40:11–12).

As I continued to read about the Resurrection, a glow came to the young man’s face and a smile graced his lips. As I concluded my visit, I said good-bye to this sweet family.

I next saw the wife and children at the funeral. I think back to that night when a young man pleaded for truth and, from the Book of Mormon, heard the answer to his question.

If LDS inc uses it then you can be assured it is not the Joe Smith translation since LDS inc doesn’t have the copyrights and therefore does not consider it the most high version.

Mormonism is a wolf in sheep's clothing... SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES (John 5:39)

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves ... For such are FALSE apostles, DECEITFUL workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.” (Matthew 7:15; 2nd Corinthians 11:13).

you are perfectly content to smear and ridicule Christians

I have never done that.

Rest easy. I'm perfectly comfortable with personal attacks, even on a religion thread.

"The tenacity, and viciousness against Mormons is quite disapponting. The exclusive expertise claimed by non-members is quite laughable."

First, your use of terminology that is inflammatory at a minimum, bordering on slander, demonstrates an innate and inherent smear. If that is lost on you, I can't help.

Then you go on to question the credibility of those posting against mormonism with your second statement.

I'm not even bringing up your previous posts on other threads to quantify what I'm saying. This one alone stands as a clear example of the contempt being aired.

Personal attack? My post is in response to yours. If my post is a personal attack, I will accept the RM's judgement and verdict.

But it's like this, if you're going to use adjectives to describe folks, you better get used to them being used to describe you as well.

Mormonism lies as much by what it withholds from the outside world as from the overt lies they spread about Christian Churches and about God.

Here is an example from their creed. Red sentences are what mormons actually believe that is not stated in order to appear Christian. Mormonism is not a Christian faith.

The Articles of Faith
of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

  1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. [We also believe God, the Eternal Father used to be a created spirit being who became a sinful man and later became God the Father. We also believe Jesus Christ was a created spirit being, who later became a man and later became a mormon god. We also believe the Holy Ghost was a created spirit being, who never got a body because he sinned. We also believe these are three separate gods and not ONE God, as the Bible talks about. Also, since they were all created spirit beings, some of which got bodies on earth before becoming mormon gods, they used to not be eternal, but now they are eternal. We also believe there is a Heavenly Mother God, well, at least one, maybe more than one, since we still believe in celestial polygamy. We also believe there are millions or even trillions of other mormon gods and than each mormon male can potentially become a god too, complete with his own goddess wives, a planet, worshippers, etc. This depends on doing enough mormonic works. Every mormon woman can potentially become a mormonic goddess and become eternally pregnant. All told, we believe in a lot of gods.]

All posters on this thread: do not make the thread "about" individual Freepers. That is also a form of "making it personal."

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

In the past, several atheists have come onto the "open" LDS related RF threads with no theological, ideological or philosophical point to make. All they brought to the table were ad hominems. They were trouble-makers and were instructed to leave the threads.

laotzu, if you are neither Mormon nor Trinitarian then the same cautions apply to you. Do not engage in ad hominems - either discuss the issues or leave the thread.

"Precious Promises of the Book of Mormon"... What Precious Promises of the Book of Mormon?

Still at it, still trying to deceive I see...

The Book of Mormon offers no hope to anyone who dies as Mormons. It only offers the promise of eternal separation from God in the Lake of Fire to anyone and everyone foolish enough to believe it and to trust in what it supposedly says about god and how one BECOMES ONE.

The Book of Mormon contains no "precious promises" from the ONE TRUE God. It is nothing but a deceptive pack of lies, foisted by Satan, the Father of lies, through his false polygamist, bigamist so-called" prophet" Joseph Smith for the sole purpose of leading them straight to Hell.

Time and time again, exceptionally qualified theologians and former Mormon cult members here on FR, have proven Mormonism's founders, doctrine and teachings to be both false and unbiblical, by citing original Mormon doctrine and sources.

Mormonism and the book of Mormon offers false gods, a false so-called "christ", a false "salvation" and a false view of eternity. There are no " Precious Promises ", only eternal death.

Concerned FR members who continually point out these truths do so because they love Mormons and do not want them to die in their sin and spend all of eternity separated from the Lord Jesus Christ in the Lake of Fire. They also warn others about this Mormon "wolf-in sheep's clothing" because they do not want others to be deceived into becoming Mormons as a result of the lies like:"Precious Promises of the Book of Mormon" which are perpetually posted on FR by Mormons who unwittingly or not, seek to mislead them into following their lies by claiming that Mormons are "Christians" and that Mormonism is a valid part of "Christianity".

There is a huge anti Mormonism industry - books, tapes, DVD’s, speaking engagements, seminars, workshops, and on and on it goes. If you are wondering why all the fuss against The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, just follow the money trail. Plain and simple.

Condemning people to hell is not the job of mere puny humans. We are not qualified. I put my faith and trust in my Savior Jesus Christ, my Advocate with the Father. Amen.

The following is one of the blasphemous stealth teachings hallmarking mormonISM:

"We may talk of men being redeemed by the efficacy of his [Christ's] blood; but the truth is that that blood has no efficacy to wash away our sins. That must depend upon our own action." [ LDS Apostle Amasa M. Lyman, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 7, p. 299, 1859]

And here are seven references from The Bible which show this mormonic teaching to be the anti-Christian/spirit of anti-christ:

Corinthians 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

1 Peter 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

1 Peter 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

Given this mormonic teaching that is the very essence of Antichrist, it is still amazing how much LDS inc apologists want folks to believe LDS inc is Christianity restored! MormonISM is the very essence of slick anti-Christ inveigling, and the promoters of this anti-Christian religion will continue to be exposed and opposed so long as Christians are not squelched by the political correctness approach inherent in the lie that exposing mormonISM is hate or hatred of the people trapped in this demonic cult.

Your KJV of the Bible is the same as ours except ours has some footnotes at the bottom.

May I remind folks that there are hundreds of versions of the Bible; the LDS Church has always used the King James Version.

Actually, before I joined the Church, I had no idea that Mormons even believed in the Bible. I had believed all the lies told me by pastors and teachers from the other churches. I had no idea that LDS has the Priesthood. I remember saying things like, “Joseph Smith thought he was Jesus Christ” and blah blah blah. Ignorance!

It might be a good idea to find out for yourself about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints rather than believe what anti Mormons post on a blog.

So why do the Mormons bother to dead dunk those same “all men” ???

From the Christian Bible you once spurned...

It is appoined unto all men to die once, but after this comes the judgement ..Hebrews 9:27...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Nothing in the Christian Bible about ALL men going to Heaven...
