I would very much like to know why the situation with the governor has been soft-pedaled. Mr. Cuomo is unrepentantly living in sin, and, in signing the same-sex union bill into, has flagrantly broken with Church teachings. Not being a canon lawyer, I don’t know for certain whether or not his actions gain a late sententiae excommunication or not. I do think that politicians who espouse Catholic beliefs and actively support abortion and/or same-sex unions should at the least get a serious visit from their bishops, not a smack on the hand. Insofar as abortion is concerned, latae sententiae excommunications are supposed to be automatic (Canon 1398). I’d still vastly prefer those sort of politicians repenting and changing their ways, though.

I received a harsher punishment in 2nd grade (ruler smacked across my knuckles) from Sister Mary Annunciata than Gov Koomoe will ever get from his bishop.
