Mormons worship a different jesus
Ogden Standard-Examiner ^ | Oct. 19, 2011 | Betsy Harvey

Posted on 10/29/2011 6:37:27 AM PDT by Colofornian

This is in response to "People should learn about Mormons before criticizing." This is absolutely true and I have done just that. I am a Christian and have many Mormon friends, family and neighbors that I choose to love in spite of our differences. Just because Jesus Christ's name is on the church doesn't mean it's the same Jesus I worship. Gordon B. Hinckley, on June 6, 1998, in Geneva, Switzerland had stated that Mormons do not believe in the traditional Christ. They believe that Jesus is our elder brother.

Brigham Young stated on Feb. 8,1857 that the god of "this" world had sexual relations with Mary and fathered Jesus.

Traditional Christians have been criticized for centuries for their beliefs, so Mormons must accept the fact that they worship a different Jesus. I suggest they read the Bible and see the difference. Read Isaiah 14:14. In this country we have religious freedom to believe in many gods, no god or Yahweh (the everlasting God).

OK. Not sure what that has to do with what I wrote.

That is true of any religion that differs from yours. Are you saying that only Christians of a particular denomination be allowed to be civic leaders in the U.S.?

Don’t all of us believing Christians promise to put God above everything else? Maybe I’m slow this afternoon, but I’m not understanding what you’re saying.

Yes, my Jesus is different from the author of the article. My Jesus accepts me, loves me, died for me to save me from my sins; my Jesus is my Advocate with the Father; my Jesus is my Savior, He is able to save; He is my Redeemer and Best Friend and I love Him with all my heart.

Their Jesus is mean, condemning, small, puny and powerless to save me.

Yes, I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and I worship a different Jesus, apparently.

Is your Jesus the ONLY begotten Son of the living God? One third of the triune God-head?

LDS doctrine is crystal clear that without the cleansing atonement of Christ, no person can expect to live eternally in the place where God resides.

Once again typical mormon obfuscation - but it proves my point. Kinda hard to progress to godhood if you don't have a body JTT.

For lurkers out there here is more on mormon atonement. From a recent (2010) general conference talk by apostle Dallin Oaks -

"Because of what He accomplished by His atoning sacrifice, Jesus Christ has the power to prescribe the conditions we must fulfill to qualify for the blessings of His Atonement. That is why we have commandments and ordinances. That is why we make covenants. That is how we qualify for the promised blessings. They all come through the mercy and grace of the Holy One of Israel, 'after all we can do' (2 Nephi 25:23)." (Oct 2010 General Conference)

Even the mormon article of faith includes works as a precursor to salvation -
―We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel‖ (Articles of Faith 3)

Lurkers note the word games mormons are playing here?

"Because of His Atonement, everyone born on this earth will be resurrected...." This condition is called immortality (Gospel Principles). Thus immortality is only a benefit of the atonement only for those whom God saves through repentance and faith. So it only supposedly saves all people from physical death without them doing or believing anything at all, the atonement does not save anyone from their sins but only "makes it possible for those who have faith in Christ to be saved from their sins."

How so?

"Through the atonement of Christ all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel. Salvation is twofold: General— that which comes to all men irrespective of a belief (in this life) in Christ— and, Individual—that which man merits through his own acts through life and by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel‖ (Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation [Bookcraft, 1954], 1:134).

The notion of a salvation that one must earn or merit is simply unbiblical. Salvation is either a gift of God‘s grace or something we merit by our works; it cannot be both. "But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace" (Romans 11:6).

Now, just where did you put that intellectual honesty at JTT? Omission of the whole story is not telling the truth.

I’m not understanding what you’re saying.

In reviewing your posting history, it appears you have been present on mormon threads since at least 2006. Given that, I'm not understanding why YOU are not understanding what I'm saying. Perhaps you should do some independent study.

“Present on Mormon threads”? I’m “present” on a lot of threads, and occasionally, Mormon-related ones.

If you can’t explain what you’re trying to get at without coming right out and saying it, no amount of studying on my part is going to fix that.

We’ll just have to leave it at that.

“Yes, my Jesus is different...”
- Saundra Duffy

Oh, yea. Let’s help you fill that in so that others know how your mormon Jesus is different.

“Yes, my mormon Jesus is different - he wasn’t eternally God, like the Biblical Christ.”
“Yes, my mormon Jesus is different - he was a created spirit-being, unlike the Biblical Christ who is eternally God.”
“Yes, my mormon Jesus is different - he is the spirit brother of satan, unlike the Biblical Christ who was never created nor made.”
“Yes, my mormon Jesus is different - he was the offspring of sex between the Holy Spirit and Mary, unlike the Biblical Christ.”
“Yes, my mormon Jesus is different - he got a body and then became a mormon god, unlike the Biblical Christ.”
“Yes, my Jesus is different - he wasn’t eternally God and couldn’t pay for anyone elses’ sins, like the Biblical Christ.
“Yes, my mormon Jesus is different - he atoned for sins by sweating in the Garden - not on the cross, like the Biblical Christ.”

A black Jesus wouldn’t be allowed into any mormon temple for most of its existence as a religion.
