So by returning to the oldest tradition should mass not be done in Aramaic instead of Latin?

Well, you'd think so, wouldn't you? ;)

But if the Roman Catholic Church told the person who posted that, well, it's just gotta be right, right? /s

They are always bigots. If they leave the RCC they are bigots. If they oppose the RCC’s doctrines, they are bigots. If they question an RCC doctrine, they are bigots. If they read the CCC and disagree with points contained, they are bigots. You know, some of those “bigots” have brought a boatload of truth about the RCC. Proof truth. So what is a truth from a bigot called in the RCC?

It’s my belief that Paul is saying that you should “work out your salvation”, ie. live the rest of you life as a child of
God as if you were trembling in awe of your savior. I mean how could God love a sinner like me. I’m totally unlikable, to quote a valley girl.

If Christ’s death on the cross, and my belief, enabled by the holy spirit, on that sacrifice isn’t the penultimate, and I have to do further by my own puny human actions to make my salvation secure, then no one can ever know if they’re saved or not. Do you truly believe that the God who loved us so much that He provided us a salvation through the death of His
Son would exact a further price by our puny efforts? It’s laughable. It puts our insignificant human existance on the level of a co-savior with God almighty. And that’s the key word.. All Mighty.

Still bobbin’ and weaving’, I see. Why didn’t Christ tell the Thief that he would have to smoke a little in “Purgatory” before seeing him in Paradise? The Thief would HAVE to be in need of purification, right? I mean, really — he was being crucified!

So please tell me: if “Purgatory” exists, why would Christ not tell the Thief? Christ wouldn’t lie!

I do believe that everyone before Christ were in Paradise which was the non burning side of hell or as some have called Abraham's bosom.

Final purification? What? Where do you get that from? Or am I completely misreading what you’re saying?

Biblical references? I didn’t see a thing that referenced Purgatory or provided anything doctrinally sound for it.....

Or was it St. Peter’s Basilica’s funding that drove things along....

>> What kind of religious system does that?<<

Well, I don’t fault them for wanting to discuss their beliefs without interruption. I do appreciate that FR does afford that option. We do however need to have threads addressing those issues that are open for the ability to counter with scripture.

"One poster in it stated they were glad mass would be given in Latin the same language Christ taught in."

That is almost as funny as all of those who claim that Jesus spoke King James English or insist that He spoke Koine Greek.

However, since Scripture records that Jesus spoke with Romans including the centurion and Pilate are you claiming that He never taught in Latin?

Heb. 12:29 - God is a consuming fire

The writer of Hebrews is citing Deuteronomy 4:24

Which the commentators read as YHvH's wrath
and consuming fire for followers of false gods.

See Rashi notes on Deut 4:24 cited up article

From an independent, uncommitted point of view, it looks as though the anti-Catholic bigots want pwople to go straight to hell and burn for eternity instead of thinking, as Catholics do, that God Almighty would allow the imperfect to be purified, then join Him in Glory.

Pretty harsh. I think I prefer the Catholic position. The others seem to want to tell God that He cannot be merciful.

**Why didn’t Christ tell the Thief that he would have to smoke a little in “Purgatory” before seeing him in Paradise? **

Because the thief made a perfect Act of Contrition.

(If you don’t know what that is — try New Advent.)

The Latin Rite (as you say Roman Church) is only one of twenty-two Catholic rites.

THE RITES OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH -- There are many!

Anyone who has read history knows that
in the eastern empire formerly under Alexander
the Great that Koine Grook was the lingua franca.

saint Paul said if you read the whold scripture.

Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. 00083 5:6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 00084 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 00085 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 00086 5:9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. 00087 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 00088 5:11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

Pauls said he would rather be with the Lord than in the body and that that would be upon the Judgement and not before.
