The editor of the prestigious Roman Catholic Tygodnik Powschechny weekly has been told by Church authorities not to make any more statements about a controversial 'Satanist' rock star recently kicked off a TV talent show.
Father Adam Boniecki, who was a confidante of the late Pope John Paul II, has been disciplined by the religious order of which he is a member, the Congregation of Marian Fathers.
According to a statement released on Thursday by the Marian Fathers, Boniecki must limit his media appearances to Tygodnik Powszechny for the time being.
Although no reason was given for the disciplinary measures, the 77-year-old priest has been widely criticised by fellow clergymen over the last two months.
In late September, Bishop Wieslaw Mering of Wlocawek, northern Poland, accused Boniecki of spreading confusion among the faithful, and representing a wolf among sheep, rather than a shepherd.
The criticisms came after Boniecki attempted to play down a scandal about the hiring of an allegedly satanic rock star, Adam Darski, on a talent-finding show broadcast on Polish public television (TVP).
Darski was cleared by a court in Krakow this summer of insulting religious sentiment after he ripped up a copy of the Bible on stage in Krakow.
Earlier this week, Boniecki appeared to defend Janusz Palikot, leader of the liberal, anti-clerical Palikot's Movement, a party that won a surprise 10 percent of the vote in the 9 October general election.
Boniecki told the TVN 24 news station that Palikot, who is seeking to have a cross removed from Poland's lower house of parliament (Sejm), has been demonized by some sections of the Church.
I don't know if [Palikot's] presence in politics is really so evil, Boniecki said. (nh/pg)

I'd be willing to bet Mr. Darski lacks the 'cajones' to tear up a koran on stage...

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
841 The Church's relationship with the Muslims. "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day."
No.
I can’t even point at a ‘satanic rocker’ who has.
fyi -
You forgot this part:
“847 This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church:
Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation.337”
Yes! Good reply!!
[847 continued] Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation.
I forgot nothing. Cardinal Avery Dulles, one of the ten greatest Catholic intellectuals in American history, spells it out this way:
Who, then, can be saved?-- concluding paragraph (formatting mine), from the thread Who Can Be Saved?. Do you agree that Muslims can be saved while still Muslim, while honoring the Koran's commands to kill infidels?Catholics can be saved if they believe the Word of God as taught by the Church and if they obey the commandments.
Other Christians can be saved if they submit their lives to Christ and join the community where they think he wills to be found.
Jews can be saved if they look forward in hope to the Messiah and try to ascertain whether Gods promise has been fulfilled.
Adherents of other religions can be saved if, with the help of grace, they sincerely seek God and strive to do his will.
Even atheists can be saved if they worship God under some other name and place their lives at the service of truth and justice.Gods saving grace, channeled through Christ the one Mediator, leaves no one unassisted. But that same grace brings obligations to all who receive it. They must not receive the grace of God in vain. Much will be demanded of those to whom much is given.
On that one I do not agree.
