WASHINGTON, D.C., November 22, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi blasted Catholics for fighting for the right not to perform or fund abortions, describing their abhorrence for supporting abortions as this conscience thing, in remarks to the Washington Post.
Last month, during a debate in the House over a bill to stop abortion funding in the health care bill and to strengthen conscience rights on abortion, Pelosi had described the bill as savage, claiming that it would allow doctors to let women die on the floor because they could refuse to perform an abortion.
In her remarks to the Post, Pelosi, who says she is Catholic, defended her statements against the Protect Life Act. While some may not like the language, she said, the truth is what I said.
They would let women die on the floor, she said. They would! Again, whatever their intention is, this is the effect.
Im a devout Catholic and I honor my faith and love it ... but they have this conscience thing [about abortion], added Pelosi. ...
Pelosi states:
Im a devout Catholic and I honor my faith and love it ... but they have this conscience thing [about abortion], added Pelosi.
Devout Catholic? Rejects the magisterium of the Church and the teachings of the Church.
In a pig's eye...

A devout Catholic who has a problem with :this conscience thing”. Please.
By identifying her self as Catholic and publicly questioning the Church’s teaching, she has committed scandal. There are people who will see her as an authority and she has used that authority to lead others to sin.
Her soul is dead.
So she did drain the swamp of all things that were against her conscience/s
I sometimes really want to know what the Pope said to her back during that private meeting back on 02/18/2009. She went away from that meeting a bit sour-faced . . . now if Benedict XVI publicly excommunicated her for her present-day comments, what would that do for her career?
Finally, this despicable creature admits she is NOT Catholic. Inadvertent, but describing the Catholic Church as “they”, means NOT her.
She's a leftist.
Leftist lie.
All the time.
About everything.
Sharks bite. Skunks stink. Leftists lie.
It's what they do.
In her district, probably not that much. She would be better off to just stop references to Catholicism. She either overtly denies Church teaching or is so poorly informed that she doesn't understand it. I think many people have had the opportunity to talk to her so I suspect she is just defiant in her views.
This article refers less to individual conscience that it does to conscience protection, that is, law that protects moral objection to intrinsically evil acts.
They want control. Control of people's decisions and their actions.
To me, the practical decisions of the bishops (like my diocese’s refusal to consider me for ordination under the pastoral provision) may be incredibly stupid (koff, koff) but, since they are not doctrine, are not grounds to leave the Church.
Peter was a dope sometimes. So are they.
BUT, it is time now for our reverend Pastors to kick butt. They are confusing the people. Kennedy, Pelousy, they are truly scandals. A definition of a skandalon is something which triggers a trap.
To remain silent as Pelousy traduces the faith she says she loves is to endorse the decision of Catholic parents to abort their unwed daughter’s child.
I am glad I’m not a bishop. We need to pray for them.
Patrick Kennedy, in a stupid move, went public with it.
That made him a former Congressman, as the ruckus prevented him from running again (over the arguments with the bishop).
The Church will try to discuss this privately.
But I agree -- they need to toss some folks.
Former Archbishop John Francis Donoghue of Atlanta in 2004 refused to give communion to politicians who supported abortion.
This is not church wide, and it was not enforced after he retired as Archbishop of Atlanta.
One thing about Nancy she doesn’t have a problem with a Conscience thing. She doesn’t have one.
Nancy is out for Nancy.
Please someone give Pelosi a formal decree of excommunication.
Too bad the Church doesn’t revive the old bell, book and candle ritual and publicly excommunicate Pelosi. However, look at Ted Kennedy, despite living a life of the rake’s progress and supporting abortion at every turn he was given a full Catholic funeral with a Bishop doing the rites. The Church has for too long been enamored with liberalism.
What was your situation, if you don’t mind me asking? If you would prefer to reply private mail, that’s fine too. Thanks.
Sad....your sould will live ETERNALLY SOMEPLACE.....too bad you let actions of OTHERS determine it.
