Gay Episcopal Bishop to Preach at San Francisco Catholic Parish
Catholic Culture ^ | 11/22/11

A notoriously 'gay-friendly' parish in San Francisco has invited an openly homosexual Episcopalian cleric to lead an Advent Vespers service.

Most Holy Redeemer parish asked Bishop Otis Charles, a retired Episcopalian prelate, to lead the November 30 service. After serving as the Bishop of Utah from 1971 to 1993, he publicly announced that he is homosexual. Divorced from the mother of his 5 children, he solemnized a same-sex union in 2004.

"Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name HAVE CAST OUT DEVILS?and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then I will profess unto them, I NEVER KNEW YOU; depart from me, ye that work iniquity." Mat.7:22-23.

Well, either YOU are wrong or CHRIST is wrong, NL. Seems there were/are are people who were/are performing exorcisms/casting out devils and they are using God's name to perform these exorcisms. The demons depart and the exorcist believes that it is God's work. SO...the question is, who is causing the exorcised demons to depart? It's not God. He never knew these workers of iniquity. That leaves SATAN. SO...it seems Satan can INDEED cast out demons and command them.

I know you will apologize for this memory lapse of yours, that you did not remember this Scripture, which is hardly hidden or non-specific.

BTW: I included you in this D-fendr because you seem so interested in why Protestants always get things WRONG on purpose to prove that Catholics are incorrect.

You would agree, I trust, that Jesus’ words out of his own mouth trump one of Paul’s letters, no?

That's ridiculous...Why would you trust Matthew and the rest of the boys to give you exactly the words Jesus said to them but wouldn't give Paul the same trust???

It's the same Holy Spirit that inspired both groups to write scripture...One group is no more authoritative than the other...

Who has claimed to cast out devils?

As I thought...a low view of scripture

We reverence Scripture; we have a low view of Scriptural reformers.

Yep ...just as all all sinners will go to hell

Maybe you were just predestined to say that.

I think that your post is lost on some. I think that this other antiCatholic individual is a little more pertinent:

>> I never said that. Boy, if you were a baseball player, your batting average would be down in the third or fourth decimal place.<<

Then what is this?

To: CynicalBear
I find your works of fiction to be oddly refreshing in the morass of antiCatholicism.

We never said that the Holy Spirit did not come on men. Why would you say that we do not?

We are also the Christian Church, not the Jewish one. Why do you conflate the two?

As you post, I do not find any understanding of the Holy Spirit, or the Church of Jesus Christ. I do find prooftexting that would seem to point to the establishment of the doctrines of whatever I come up with this afternoon.

"...you seem so interested in why Protestants always get things WRONG on purpose to prove that Catholics are incorrect."

I wonder too, but think I know the answer. Your faith is contingent on your own discernment and that must be defended more vigorously than the truth. The parable you are now citing does not address Satan casting out demons, it deals with being a complete follower of Jesus and living the Beatitudes, not just snippets of them. It is about obeying all of the law, not just the parts you have determined to be rightly divided. It is about the call to good works. It is about what you have done and failed to do for the least among us.

The entire parable follows because it cannot be repeated often enough to those of you who see works as a dishonest attempt to bribe oneself into heaven.

A Tree and Its Fruit
15 “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? 17 So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 So then, you will know them by their fruits.

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’

Peter, rock, build church......

In the Greek the words are not the same, there’s a gender difference giving a slightly different meaning to the root word.

Not to mention that Jesus didn’t say to Peter *On YOU I will build my church*, but rather *upon this rock* which would be a weird way of telling Peter that the church would be built on him.

Sin is any offense to an all Holy Righteous God.. So if one seeks food over God then food is an idol ..and a grave offense to God...

All men are sinners, and stand before God as GUILTY the question is ... how then are any saved? How can any stand before the righteous and Holy God when even our prayers contain sin??? All men DESERVE hell ... We need one to redeem us...to pay the fine we can not pay to the God we offend daily ...

Rom 3:25 Whom God hath set forth [to be] a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
Rom 3:26 To declare, [I say], at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

As Peter put it

1Pe 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

"In the Greek the words are not the same,..."

Yet both are used in Scripture to refer to Peter. Your claim only can only be made if you limit your study to Matthew 16:18. However that argument falls flat when you read John 1:42.

Sure...it doesn’t mean what it says. It doesn’t mean that there are “followers” of Christ, thinking they are casting out devils in His name, and He doesn’t know them, They are workers of iniquity. Sure. Your credibility rating with me has just dropped a good 10 points. I’m sure that concerns you not at all, but anyone reading the passage with at least 2 brain cells to shake together, can understand what it CLEARLY STATES. Deny it if it makes you feel better. It won’t be the first time. I’m sure it won’t be the last.

"Sin is any offense to an all Holy Righteous God..."

So, as we are taught in Matthew 25, when you took that second helping of pumpkin pie or packed on an extra hundred pounds knowing there are hungry in your community did you sin against God or fail to feed Jesus? When you lingered at your keyboard to hammer out one more anti-Catholic post instead of using the time helping one needy child did you sin?

Did you read my post?

All men are sinners deserving of hell... but men are not sent to hell because they are sinners ..or else non could be saved.. men go to hell because they do not have a Savior that has paid for their sins for them ...they are not redeemed.. they remain slaves to their sin

Slaves can never pay for their own freedom ....

lol! Why? Do you want to be on their prayer chain? You seem to be the mouthpiece for telling us that private exorcism prayers are being said and candles lit.

Actually, I do. The Jewish people is the original. We Christians are the grafted in. But it is on God's terms, not yours.
