“It sort of taught us that it’s not all that good to trust politicians sometimes,” Dolan said. “And I think some of us bishops think we were being deceived. And I think that could be, shame on us for believing them.”

Duh.

Don’t rail against the evil, Archbishop, there’s not enough votesto pass it.

Don’t waste money fighting against evil.

How hard could it have been to set the tone in all their churches about this during this time period. They run the dicoeses. They could have done something for free, just sent statements out to be read, if the priests couldn’t be trusted to do a sermon.

I’m sorry but Dolan is a smart guy. To somehow claim he was totally duped by secular politicians saying don’t worry, is passing the blame for not having a hard response to this.

Since when do you not fight something of this magnitude this horrible just to save a few bucks?

Skelos was determined to get this over and done with from the very beginning. They pressured newly elected senator (my senator) Mark Grisanti and promised him a safe district. Within 10 days he recieved 135,000 into his ampaign account. Skelos, Maziarz, Ranzenhofer were all pissed off at me because I was publicly going after Grisanti.

The silence coming from most of the Clergy was deafening. Only a small hand full joined with us to fight, that group was NYFCF with Duanne Motley and his small team.

I’m disgusted by the whole way this was handled by the Church. And Skelos, if he had dome the right thing and put it up for referendum we wouldn’t be in this mess.

All of these morons neeed to be challenged in a primary and we are focused on a few up here to include Skelos, Maziarz and Grisanti. They need to be slapped upside the head.

Everytime I hear a pastor complain about this I simply ask them, where were you? Where was your church? It is because of the inactivity of the Christian community that we are now suffering with a immoral and corrupt legislature.

Christians need to wake up and get involved. We cannot do it alone. I’m burnt out, 16 years as a lone voice in the wilderness in WNY.

Separation of Church and States means the Church does have to recognize gay marriage and the Church can still regard homosexual acts as sinful and say so. Caesar’s image in on this.

This is very hard to believe. I think Dolan is an honest guy, but come on. Everyone knew this was coming up for a vote, including people out of the state. And it was obvious that there was considerable danger that it would pass, with Cuomo pushing strongly for it.

Maybe if the Bishop of Albany hadn’t welcomed the newly inaugurated Cuomo to a celebratory Mass, with his girlfriend sitting next to him in the pew, and then given both of them Communion, it might have helped.

Why haven’t these guys been excommunicated?

Dolan says, he and his fellow bishops had been assured by “political allies” that the bill didn’t have any legs, and that there was no need to expend resources fighting it.

In retrospect, said Dolan, he and the other bishops are wondering if they weren’t being deceived.

It never was voted on by the people. They would of voted it down. Thanks to Mario Coumo’s son. He filled him up with enough liberal ideas. So he forced without a citizen vote. He also got paid if you read some accounts. There are some billionaires who inherited their money and paid off.

No. The correct answer is that the politicians can NEVER be trusted when it comes to faith and morals - and that goes double for allegedly Catholic politicians (Pelosi, Cuomo, Kennedy, et al). If the bishops want to start leading the fight, then they need to root out the unrepentent homosexuals in their ranks and vigorously eject any so-called Catholics who support abortion, gay marriage or any other moral atrocity. St. Peter wasn't a diplomat, they shouldn't be either.

If the bishops don't lead the fight against evil, who will?

I think Archbishop Dolan just learned the hard way that democrats lie like a rug.

When Cuomo decides to run for the presidency a few years from now, I hope Catholics hold his feet to the fire on this.

Nah, ya think? The Bishops have to learn to fight for issues involving morals, and not take any politicians word for what it entails, or what its chances might be. They also need leave the economy and politics to the economists and politicians. They've wasted FAR too much time and political capital on Social Justice the past 40 years, and as a result, have lost the confidence of the people of the Church when it comes to REAL moral issues.

The Bishops in Mississippi were silent on the recent Personhood Amendment, and they let Planned Parenthood and the ACLU completely frame the debate. Those two groups confused the voters into thinking that women who had miscarriages were going to be prosecuted for murder, and that contraception was going to be outlawed. Because of those issues, many who were pro-life were iffy on the legislation, and absent any direction from their 'moral leaders', voted against the bill.

“It sort of taught us that it’s not all that good to trust politicians sometimes.”

I'm new to being Catholic and don't want to offend anyone or anything, but where do they get these guys? I mean, "trust politicians" as if those words together made some sense without "never" in front of them? WTF. The fascist democrat scum bled The Church white by backing false accusations in order to enrich their queer pals and these guys sound like they still can't figure it out. Whatever sort of folks they once were able to work with, none of that sort are in the democrat party anymore and for the most part haven't been for a generation. Just like the other groups they bleed out and then toss to one side, the Catholic Church is a target to the democrat thugs and nothing else. The fascists don't need the Catholic Church anymore and so will do everything in their power to make sure it's crippled to the point it can't help anyone out the way it helped democrat Catholics over the years. Every democrat elected official worships only the democrat party or they would have never have risen to the level of being allowed to run for any office no matter how minor. No matter what they claim to believe in, their belief in the fascist party is above all other beliefs they have. They're even well on the way to establishing a State Religion in all but name the same way the Nazi Party did in Germany.

There are no Catholic politicians in the democrat party anymore. People have to start dealing with that reality rather than making excuses.
