Orthodoxy without orthopraxy equals Pharisaism.
because these traditions fail when being tested by scripture.
>>Correction. They fail when being tested by private interpretations of scripture.
Christianity is a spiritual life, not an academic study, nor a religious persuasion.
>>Amen. Too many modern Fundamentalist or Conservative Christians reduce Christianity to texts. It has to be lived.
The enemies of Christianity latch onto this Pharasaism and use it to undermine the Church.
You are lost eternally if this post is really how you see things.
>>Who put you on the throne for Judgement Day?
They fail under the plain sense of scripture, under any translation. They're only deemed acceptable due to extra-Biblical reinterpretations and decrees of fallible men who have the presumption to deem themselves infallible.
I would not present this to students. It may be an interesting intellectual exercise that brings glory to who? there are much better things to be talking about and doing. If skeptics are offended that is ok.
the fact is God CHOSE to use the bible to communicate with us. He didn't have to but he did. the people in the new testament were steeped in old testament.
Personally as a christian, I have stopped reading all the other books about Christianity and stick to the original source.
It’s a good thing nobody suggested that...
Fundamentalists are full of themselves and are little better than the Pharisees.
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.” Matthew 23:25
The canon was decreed by fallible men.
What, infallibility wasn't decreed retroactive? I'm shocked. Yes, men are fallible. Inspired scripture is not. That's why we need it, and not men running amok without such an immovable anchor to truth. Otherwise, they'd start imagining themselves infallible, start prancing around in ermine gowns and slippers, and just generally making asses of themselves.
Oh, wait ...
This isn’t judgement day, its one man to another, trying to keep him from destruction.
Scripture doesn’t self-decree the canon. Many early Christians, for example, regarded Revelation and Hebrews as apocryphal.
Yes. And you? Do you regard the books of Revelation and Hebrews apocryphal?
This isnt judgement day, its one man to another, trying to keep him from destruction.
>>So you are saying that people are going to hell if they disagree with your personal understanding of the Bible? It sounds kind of smug if you ask me.
Scripture needs no interpretation, its language is simple, and intended for all.
Ever notice how Christ carefully explained each parable to his sheep?
Interpretation is always error; plain reading is the word of God. Traditions are a barrier between the sheep and their shepherd.
The bible requires no special understanding; it is written for all.
Some lost souls may have regarded Revelation and Hebrews as apocryphal, but not likely any of God’s elect.
The early Christians didn’t have Revelation, it was penned in 0094 more or less. They had the same prophecies though, in Daniel, and Zechariah.
The notion of a “plain reading of scripture” is not Biblical.
2 Peter 3:15-16 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
