DENVER, March 2, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Just after speaking about societys slow descent into adversity against religious freedom, the bishop administering the Catholic Archdiocese of Denver found himself in a closer encounter with the subject than hed anticipated.
Bishop James Conley was speaking to a Theology on Tap group on Jan. 26 about how America is turning into an atheocracy at Stoneys Bar and Grill of Denver when trouble began brewing.
America today is becoming what I would call an atheocracya society that is actively hostile to religious faith and religious believers. And I might add, the faith that our society is most hostile toward is Christianity in general, and Catholicism in particular, said Conley, according to one report.
I think we all recognize that there is a new mentality in America, one that has grave risks for all believersand puts in jeopardy all faith-based movements for social change and renewal. An atheocracy is a dangerous placemorally and spiritually. ... We risk becoming a nation without a soul, a people with no common purpose apart from material pursuits.
Even though the remarks were given in a private area of the bar, patrons reportedly began aiming snide remarks at the prelate, with one shouting an obscenity at Conley. Workers also complained to management at having to serve the bishop, according to the report, and some refused to serve the group.
The night ended with the restaurant saying that the event was too controversial and requesting that Theology on Tap take its business elsewhere. However, the owner of Stoneys told Catholic News Agency that the dust-up was a misunderstanding and that the restaurant hoped to work with the group in the future.
EWTN reports that Katie Mullens Irish Restaurant and Pub welcomed the Theology on Tap following the row.

Next time I’m in Denver Katie Mullins’ Irish Restaurant and Pub will have a new patron. And after a nice dinner of Corned Beef and Cabbage I might stop in to Stoneys Bar and Grill to use the facilities. Loudly.
Devil`s Brew!
When the dimocrat convention was in Denver last go-round, they would not let Chaput speak to them.
When you tracel through the Denver airpot, does anyone else feel as I do, that the place is possessed by Satan? Look at the art next time you are there.
I hate it and have to fly into it this next week.
Sounds like a good plan. You may be setting a precedent too.
Evil is no longer compelled to hide, but is out in the open now.
...not saying I particularly subscribe to any of them, but you're by no means the first or only one to feel that way.
Ah, the owner found out what was done by the soon-to-be-ex-manager. Surely the group will be happier in the Irish pub.

Now we know the REAL reason California outlawed hunting mountain lions.
(Yes, I know this particular incident was in Colorado.)
Denver airport is built over an Indian Burial ground. Instead of allowing the tribe to remove the remains, they just built, and then later, when they ran into many spooky problems that delayed the opening, instead of asking the then Catholic bishop Chaput, a Native American, to bless the airport, they started looking around for a “medicine man” to do a ceremony.
They approached one ber respected medicine man but he refused, since it wasn’t his tribe, so they got another, probably a crank.
So yes, the place is haunted. But don’t blame the Indians, but the new age types who designed the place and the greedy SOB’s who didn’t respect the remains of the dead.
Parrothead BTTT!
This is hysterical! A Bishop walks into a bar and ...
I like the Denver airport. They have a smoking area.
I suppose that’s rare enough to be noteworthy, these days.
Drove by the Base Chaplain’s office only to find a new red Corvette parked in their spaces with a vanity plate reading “S8TAN”. Sums up the situation nicely.
Puts a different meaning on the phrase, “the chaplain has left for the day to drive s8tan out of town”....0;^(
