Nuns Issue Statement Defending Billionaire Contraceptive Campaigner Melinda Gates

May 10, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A group of Ursuline nuns whom billionaire Melinda Gates had claimed in a recent speech supports her campaign to inject tens of millions of women in impoverished countries with Depo-Provera and other contraceptive drugs, has issued a statement defending Gates and the work of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, while simultaneously claiming to support Catholic moral teaching.

Gates recently told Newsweek that the nuns at the Ursuline Academy of Dallas, where she once attended school, were delighted to hear about her plans to initiate a global contraceptive campaign and contacted her to tell her: “We’re all for you. We know this is a difficult issue to speak on, but we absolutely believe that you’re living under Catholic values.” Melinda Gates speaking at the TedxChange talk.

“It was just so heartening,” Gates said of the phone call, which she says the Ursuline nuns made to her hotel room in Berlin, where she had just announced her intentions at a TEDxChange conference in early April.

In a statement on the matter issued yesterday to “employees, parents, students, alumnae, and other members of our school community” and obtained by LifeSiteNews.com, Academy President Margaret Ann Moser says that the nuns are “proud of Melinda French Gates, her dedication to social justice, her compassion for the underserved, and the great work of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

“Melinda Gates leads from her conscience, and acts on her beliefs as a concerned citizen of our world,” adds Moser, explaining, “The mission of Ursuline Academy of Dallas is to educate young women for such leadership.”

My sister went to an Ursuline academy back in the sixties, and they were just as radical then.

It would explain a lot.

My parents wound up moving her to another Catholic all-girl school. I don't remember the specifics, but there was big controversy surrounding one nun in particular that made the news for a couple of weeks.

Not a good day for American Catholics.

First that lesbian communion nonsense in DC, and now this.

How many fundamental teachings of your faith can you violate in single day?

It is the duty of the local bishop to correct the nuns of the error of their ways. If they persist in undermining Catholic doctrine, then no means should they confuse the faithful by posing as Catholic educators. The Bishop should the close the school or make it very clear it is not a Catholic institution.

All the nuns in my Catholic grade school grade 1-8 were as liberal as you could get. 3/4 I bet were lesbos's..but not the pretty, good kind.

It is time for the Vatican to tell these organizations and schools to stop claiming affiliation to their church.

Ascension School Oak Park, IL up to the mid-60s had devout Ursulines, truly Catholic, humble, compassionate, orthodox.

The Jesuits used to be Catholic, too.

By the time I got to St. Ignatius High in the late 60s those Jesuits were already liberated from orthodoxy. We watched Antonioni’s Blow-Up in one class, and studied the Age of Aquarius in another.

Good grief! Can’t you Latins get your folks in monastic orders behave? We Orthodox are no better about excommunicating abortion-supporting politicians, but at least our monks and nuns aren’t out and about giving public support to the collapse of apostolic morality.

It's like the reformation all over again. Everyone has their own version of the truth.

The protestant “reformation” is simply not Biblical:

“I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought. My brothers, some from Chloe's household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, "I follow Paul"; another, "I follow Apollos"; another, "I follow Cephas"; still another, "I follow Christ."

Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized into the name of Paul? I am thankful that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, so no one can say that you were baptized into my name. (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don't remember if I baptized anyone else.) For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. 1Cor 1:10-17

You could easily read the above as “One of you says, "I follow Luther"; another, "I follow Calvin"; another, "I follow Wesley"; still another, "I follow Christ."

Christians cannot be “perfectly united in mind and thought” when they have different beliefs on, say, the necessity of water baptism, while others believe “This is my Body” means “This is a cookie”

God bless in your journey to the truth.

This is exactly why Pope Benedict is sending emissaries to inspect the validity of the convents!
