Trayvon Martin's mother gets an ovation at Balto. church
The Baltimore Sun ^ | May 20, 2012 | Jill Rosen

As Trayvon Martin's mother stood at the altar of Baltimore's Empowerment Temple on Sunday, the Rev. Jamal-Harrison Bryant asked for anyone whose child had also been the victim of "senseless violence" to come forward.

At least a dozen women and men assembled at Sybrina Fulton's feet before she stepped down to grab one of them. She squeezed the woman, patted her back and whispered in her ear. Then Fulton moved down the line, tightly embracing each mother, grandmother and father, each of them too familiar with loss, until she'd touched them all.

Congregants erupted into deafening applause and brushed away tears.

"If it was your child you would not want it swept under the rug," Bryant said, his voice booming through the sound system. "Cheer for them like their child's memory will not be in vain."

Earlier Fulton told the congregation that she was visiting the mega-church to see some of the thousands who have stood with her family to demand justice for her son, who was fatally shot in Florida this winter. Thousands nationwide have rallied to the cause.

Few supporters have been more forceful — or more present — than the church's pastor, Bryant, who has been at Fulton's side since shortly after Martin's death....

Well, that answers my question as to WHO brought this to the attention of the political bigwigs and MSM.

I knew there had to be one initial and ‘well-connected’ link.

However, the mother seems to have other motives as well.

Not really. Now... the preacher who got this all going and 'advises' her daily has other motives.

She is being wined and dined during her grief, and only being asked to cooperate with the direction she is being led.

She may find out that she doesn't like where she is headed, especially if it turns out to be off the end of a plank, but at the moment, it's all good.

What is an “Empowerment Temple”?

That's where you find a multi-story house in a declining neighborhood, and call it a church. You get tax relief, and government grants.

I think a lot of people are making money on this issue.

Mommie Dearest undoubtedly got a hefty speaker's fee and expenses for her stop at this Baltimore mega-church which seats 20,000 in its gleaming pews.

Spare me the grieving parents bit. She and hubby just returned from hitting the United Kingdom speaking circuit. She even has numerous variations of her son's name copyrighted.

The window of opportunity is wide open for this couple and they're assiduously taking advantage of it for all it's worth.

Since she trademarked all the "trayvon" merchandise, she can probably write off this escapade in Baltimore as a business expense.

Grieving? Seems more like cashing in and playing up the race card but perhaps it is a form of grieving.

Baltimore is a hell hole on the path to becoming the same as Detroit...Maryland’s one party system ensures the “progressive” lawlessness. I live 25 minutes south and the only reason i’ll go is to enjoy an Orioles game. Other than that you are taking your life in your hands due to the indigenous population...

I was wondering how many of them suffered violence from other blacks.

“She and hubby just returned ...”
Her hubby?

It is interesting that so many people refer to Tracey Martin as the “husband” of Sybrina Fulton.

But Sybrina and Tracey, the father of her second child, were divorced 13 years ago, when Trayvon was a toddler. Tracey remarried 7 years ago to a woman named Alicia Stanley. Now, Mr. Martin has a third woman, a “fiancee” in Sanford, named Brandy Green. Mr. Martin was having a sleepover with his fiancee, and he took Trayvon with him.

It was while Mr. Martin was out to dinner with Brandy, that Trayvon was left unsupervised for the evening. They reported him missing when they got up the next morning.

Miss Green has been out of the public eye for a long time, while Tracey and Sybrina have been touring together.

From what I can tell at the pastor's bio on Wiki, it's an African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) church, which I believe is the largest black denomination.

“So this is becoming a cottage industry?”

When does a cottage become a mega-cottage?

God Bless Trayvon’s family. Clearly they are grieving and going to church is giving them some sense of peace. Everyone grieves a different way. I know you normally know this but for some reason you forgot.

Well said. I notice that on a forum, where so many claim Christianity, even a statement like this brings out the flame-throwers. I fear we all need prayers because folks have become so obsessed with politics and the movement of the Godless to mpose their will, that reason seems to have left. God Bless

Sorry but you are confusing a Christian assembly of believers and DOERS with a political rally. The posters you admonish apparently take umbrage of a Church service becoming a staging point to fuel a political cause that seeks to undermine basic human rights, like self defense, in Florida. Shame on your misguided self-righteousness and your ignorance of using a Church in Maryland as a recruiting point to for political causes that go after laws in Florida.

“Fulton took the dais to a standing ovation. Bryant called her “the mother of the new civil rights movement” and “this generation’s Rosa Parks.”

Also what is “justice for her son” have to do with worshipping His son? Most of the “black Churches” today have become political whorehouses. Most “white Churches” have become spineless and weak that excuses everything under the sun including the devil himself.

You make a lousy mind reader. I expressed the sentiment of the guy I responded to by saying that prayers were in order. What the pastor of the church did was abhorrent, but the mother still has to be hurting and even if she is/becomes a racial activist and opportunist, her son is dead and she has to be hurting. If you can't figure that out, you need to get off the high horse long enough to get back in touch with reality.

I wouldn't throw around those “blessings” of God too readily. One of the things high on the list that God really, really hate is a perversion of justice and those who deliberately pervert the legal system-grieving or not.
