(CNSNews.com) - Having organized 43 plaintiffsincluding the archdioceses of New York and Washington and the University of Notre Dameto file 12 different lawsuits against the Obama administration last Monday alleging the administration is violating the religious freedom of Catholics, the Catholic bishops of the United States are now preparing Catholics for what may be the most massive campaign of civil disobedience in this country since the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and early 1960s.
Some unjust laws impose such injustices on individuals and organizations that disobeying the laws may be justified, the bishops state in a document developed to be inserted into church bulletins in Catholic parishes around the country in June.
Every effort must be made to repeal them, the bishops say in the document, which is already posted on the website of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. When fundamental human goods, such as the right of conscience, are at stake, we may need to witness to the truth by resisting the law and incurring its penalties.
The bulletin insert reminds Catholic parishioners that the bishops have called for A Fortnight of Freedomwhich they have described as a special period of prayer, study, catechesis, and public actionto take place from June 21 to July 4.
The bishops have noted that June 21, when this fortnight will begin, is the Vigil of the Feast of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More. Fisher was a Roman Catholic cardinal whom the English monarch Henry VIII beheaded in 1535 after he refused to act against his conscience and take an oath asserting that Henry was the supreme authority over the church in England. That same year, Henry VIII also beheaded Thomas More, his former chancellor, for the same reason.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) website has information on the “Fortnight...”, and many protestants are well engaged and well informed, standing quite at the ready to join in.
Protestants know how to protest, and I say that with great affection for protestants, as I “were one”, most of my life. (Charasmatic, evangelical at that!) :)
Love to all who will protest.
God be with us, and US with Him.
Awesome, thanks for sharing. Going to pass it along.
What irony.
And now they want us to be martyrs.
Oh, the courage!
This Lutheran is joining up too.
Some of the comments are priceless!
We certainly need you — there are too many Catholics who still do not heed the bishop’s statement.
Where and when? United we stand divided we fall!
It’s again time to watch “A Man for All Seasons.”
That’s pretty much the scope of it.
In orher words, we are going to tell this so called government to go straight to hell!
F U B O !!
What better way to watch the heads of so many of our far left brethren and sistahs heads' explode as well as witnessing all the Mooselimb Groups here (as well as their fellow Islamic Jihadist Worldwide) go apoplectic, if not, Postal.
Can you imagine Chrissy Mathews, Herr Schultz and Mad Cow Maddow, et al., spitting and sputtering hardly able to contain themselves? lol
Somebody needs to start a movement to involve Hispanic Catholics in this Christian activism.
We need to get them to start connecting God with voting against democrats and their satanic agendas.
The priests in my parish, St. Paschal Baylon of Thousand Oaks, CA, are all totally on board with the bishops. They have been preaching about it at every Mass.
I have to wonder - why havent ALL Catholic schools and colleges joined in these lawsuits? Why havent all Catholic hospitals joined in them?
Good to hear. You are fortunate.
"Social Justice"
Actually, it is sound legal strategy. Should anything be found to be structurally wrong with the 13 separate law suits filed there are literally hundreds of others ready to file follow-on suits.
Upper East Tennessee's first joint Baptist-Catholic rally. And we're hoping for some Lutherans, Bible-Church and Non-denoms. Love it, love it, love it!
I hope you’re right.
