Democrat Commiteewoman Resigns from Party, Cites Her Catholic Faith
National Catholic Register ^ | 5/28/12 | Matthew Archbold

Posted on 05/29/2012 2:42:20 AM PDT by markomalley

Ann Nardelli has been a Catholic Democrat her entire life. Her father was one before her. And she couldn't imagine a day where that wouldn't be true.

But that day was Wednesday of last week.

I read a story about Jo Ann leaving the Democratic Party and was interested because she cited her Catholic faith as the reason.

So I gave her a call. I got her machine and as I was leaving a message she picked up. She said she'd been screening her calls because so many people have been calling to say nasty things to her or just pleading with her to change her mind. But when I called, saying I was with The National Catholic Register she picked up.

(snip)

Nardelli has always been a pro-life Democrat and felt that there was always room for that position in the party. But she said that for the past few years she's felt that the party was drifting further and further away from her. She said she never shied away from speaking about her Catholic faith or her pro-life views as a Democrat.

She said that for years she hoped that she could change the party from within, make it more in line with traditional values. "I thought I could make a difference to change our party. It didn’t work," she said. "I noticed it that it’s been going more and more to the left. This is not my father’s party. I did not leave the party, the party left me."

In a letter of resignation to the Democratic party, Nardelli cited her Catholic faith.

Hopefully we'll see more of this as time goes on. (Sadly, I'm not holding my breath)

How many Republicans feel like the same is happening to them?

Mitt Romney supports abortion on demand. He is pro-gay agenda. He believes in global warming. He is a statist who is a self-avowed Progressive, a socialist.

I’ve been a life-long Republican and like the woman in your article feel as though my party has left me, too.

How can anyone not see that they're headed in the exact opposite direction? The progressive label they give themselves does not refer to traditional, but anti-traditional progress. That's basically what leftism means.

God bless her. I wish more culturally-Democrat Catholics would wake up and see the moral abominations that their party is pushing in the face of all decency and morality. As for the culturally-Catholic Democrats, well, all I can say is shame on them, although it may not be their entire fault as catechesis has been so abominable in the past 40 years.

If Hubert Humphrey were alive today and sat through a typical democrat caucus, he would feel a patriotic need to send a report to the FBI.

This party is indistinguishable from the CPUSA

If things do not change SOONER rather than later in the republican "STUPID" party then it's going to end up being just the rino/moderate/democrat party.

Conservatives either need to wrest control from those rino prix or get out and leave that mess of losers!

Hell, the “Democrats” are to the left of the ChiComs. The latter aren’t nearly as anti-business.

Me neither and sadly it is to say that the socialists are taking over the Democrat party and they are also working on the republican party.

She appears to be one of the rarest people on this earth. A Democrat politician with a conscience and personal integrity. It is impossible to be a sincere Christian and a member of the Democrat Party. The values are totally incompatible.

Democrats Christians are people like Rev. Wright, Rev. Al Sharpton and other dishonest opportunists.

The only Christians who are Democrats are people who don't understand Christian principles, Democrat Party principles or both.

I didn’t leave the party, the party left me.

How many times have I heard that?
How many times have I said that?

I left the Democrats when they left me also.
Now I am thinking of leaving the republicans, because the RINO’s are leaveing me also.

How I wish I had a viable Conservative party to go to.

Why would anyone today want to be affiliated with th GOPe? As the world around me tilts left, I don’t. The Episcopal church left me behind by ‘leaning forward’, the GOPe also “LEFT” me behind. Frankly it’s a relief not to force myself to get along with people who want to wreck my value system. I vote conservative, and if the Democrat that ran against Lindsey Graham seems more conservative, then that’s why he got my vote...I’m a a Conservative Independent...this being an unreported category. (I hate being thrown in with the “gee-I-can’t-make-up-my-mind” independents.) And Libs can raise all the money the want, it won’t affect me. A million bumper stickers will not phase my “political affiliation.” ... For EITHER party.

She will slither into the Republican Party...Now that the Republican Party has taken the place of the old Democrat Party...

Well, she may or may not “slither”. She is bringing her faith and family commitment with her, which makes her a different breed than, say, Riordan, Schwarzenegger, Giuliani.

Thanks God this woman is speaking out. May she lead others away from the Democratic Party and thus change it from the outside.

God bless her.

Now she needs to go to confession!

Not many people realize that at the Denver convention of the dims, they put a plank into their platform that supported abortion all the way.

If the Republicans do that, and if Willard wants Romneycare — then the Republican party has left me too.

I really can’t vote for him because the Romneycare paid for abortion just like the Obamacare will pay for abortions.
