A group of philosophy graduate students at the University of Notre Dame recently created a petition opposing the universitys lawsuit against the HHS mandate. They even go so far as to say that by accepting the mandate i.e., giving up Notre Dames right to act according to its Catholic mission the university could better fulfill its Catholic mission.
We the undersigned members of the Notre Dame community wish to express our disagreement with the universitys decision to file a lawsuit contesting the Health and Human Services mandate that requires employee health insurance plans to provide no cost birth control coverage to employees. We understand that the university administration believes this lawsuit will advance its Catholic mission and promote freedom of conscience. We too are fully committed to freedom of conscience. However, we believe the philosophical and legal arguments strongly favor compliance with the law. Further we believe Notre Dame would better serve its Catholic mission by focusing on improving campus services for families rather than embroiling itself in a legal challenge.

They're not stupid, just typical narcissistic types with a totalitarian agenda. Such folks always end up believing their own propaganda.
Look at the Town Hall meetings after BarryCare was first passed. Consider just how many of the idiots who voted for that horrible pile of blank pages interspersed with violations of the Constitution were shocked when people were upset rather than falling at their feet and thanking them. Narcissists always surround themselves with people who know they can't handle the truth which just compounds their lack of contact with reality.
I'm sure a few of the democrat fascists are just as violence prone and insane as the Colorado shooter and have fantasies of a Civil War, but for the most part, they just don't believe that there are enough people in the country who disagree with them for it to ever come to that. They think all the disasters they've created have been spectacular successes compared to what would have happened had they not put their vision of socialist paradise in place.
