AA works because it is based on God’s moral laws......

it is a good place to start for some.....unbelievers in particular......many come to a greater understanding and true relationship with God thru the 12 steps and your sanctimonious trashing of it is.......never mind.....

Because AA is ill equipped to truly deal with the root of addiction which is a spiritual issue.

That runs completely counter to my experience, in which the Basic Text and the Big Book (and my sponsor) all specifically state that the root of alcoholism and addiction is a spiritual malady. The solution to 'staying stopped' is spiritual in nature and they lay out practical steps to removing the obstacles between you and God and to serving Him in all your daily affairs.

And I wonder if AA gives a Big Book to everyone who comes to their meetings

My experience is that yes, anyone who asks for a Big Book or Basic Text and cannot afford one, is given one. I even recieved one of each when I was coming in.

This is where you are wrong; and even guilty of calling God a liar.

Dude. Not cool.

God didn’t call me to “be cool,” he called me to dispense the truth. I gave up “being cool” over 30 years ago. When I was ready to blow my own brains out because of where “being cool” brought me too, I gave my life to Christ instead. I am now here to please God, not man. And the truth is, you cannot please God and please man at the same time. That’s Bible.

Wrong. That's EXACTLY what the program is about.

I not only desire to see a man free from addiction, but living a productive, peaceful, and joyous life.

People that stick with the program and actually work the steps experience these promises.

I think it's great you've found a solution. I thinks it's great that you wrote a book.

I don't think it's great that you come on here and piss all over the AA program.

My 18.5 years continuous first time sobriety says the olde fashioned AA way works, where we say “alcoholic” not addict like this publicity seeker.

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

AA has a singleness of purpose which is to help the alcoholic that still suffers. (Trad. 5)

AA is based on attraction, rather than promotion. (Trad. 11)

Finally I am not attracted by the self-promotion and criticism of AA, which my family and I credit for saving my life.

Same for the Catholic priest who conducted my intervention. He later left the priesthood, but works professionally in recovery.

He wrote the book he is promoting here for the second time. If his credibility is off limits then there is no place for this thread here on this board at all.

HELL YA! :)

Tell ya what.... I’ll ship you some sweeteners that are more suited to my medical needs. You ship me back finished product, keep the excess sweetener, and make yourself some (much safer for blood sugar) oatmeal cookies for yourself!

Freepmail me an address....

If this article had been posted anywhere else on Free Republic, some but not all ad hominems would have been allowed.

But since it is posted in the Religion Forum, no ad hominems are allowed. Because flame wars easily ignite when the subject is one's deeply held religious beliefs, the guidelines require that RF posters discuss the issues instead of individual Freepers.

Sorry, AA does not have the power to supernaturally change a persons internal structure — only Jesue Christ can do so.

I’m not the only one Jesus Christ has supernaturally transformed. You seek reformation, we have received transformation. Go ahead, live second best if you will, God has given you the choice to remain an alcoholic or addict if you choose. I chose to be set free, for yes indeed, “WHOM THE SON SETS FREE, IS FREE INDEED.”
