Interesting. I have been toying with the idea of joining the Catholic Church after years of being fed up with the Episcopal Church for many of the same reasons. Liberals seem to foul up everything they touch. Their politics seep into everything. I think a lot of it depends on the priest and parish, but it is frustrating. The Episcopal Church is almost beyond redemption for those of us who are more traditional. Very sad.
I know, Pen .. it’s sad, sad, sad. You’d think the ONE
place you could depend on traditional, unchangeable
values and principles, but even there ...
Since I’ve been gladhanded and given empty rhetoric
and brushed off for so long when I asked meaningful
questions, I get very disheartened. But, as has been
said by others, the commitment, love and worship is for
Christ, His one, true Church, not the fallible humans in
positions of temporary and temporal leadership on earth.
They can become corrupted and political as all flawed
humans can ..and we’re all flawed human beings .. but God
does not change, and He is still on His throne forever,
and always loving us. And WE are in charge of our
salvation ultimately.
I take great heart and hope from Fr. Robert Barron.
He created an extraordinarily insightful, historic.
beautifully inspiring, solid documentary series on
the Catholic church from its beginnings, called the
Catholicism Series, that’s been shown on PBS. You
can find clips here .. I find him SO articulate and
understandable, logical, uplifting, comforting and
hopeful .. watch a few:

It’s now being shown to groups in parishes all over the country.

Catholicism Series Hits a Milestone: Over 1,000 Broadcasts on Public Television Nationwide

Over 1000 episodes of Catholicism, a ground-breaking, multi-part documentary series, have aired on public broadcasting stations across the nation in less three months since its September 22 premiere.
This fall, over 65% of public television stations have broadcast the mini-series, including New York’s WNET, and Chicago’s WTTW.
Eighteen of the top 20 markets are carrying Catholicism, and it will continue to air in 2012 and also weekly on EWTN as more stations pick up the programs.

This week in New York, the documentary was featured on NBC’s Today Show with Father Robert Barron, the host and writer of the series, and Executive Producer Mike Leonard. The New York premiere screening of Catholicism was also held at the Times Center, with an introduction by Archbishop Timothy Dolan, for over 400 people.
This epic 10 episode television production illustrates the history and treasures of a global religion shared by more than one billion people around the world. The series is filmed in stunning high-definition and spans more than 50 locations in 15 countries.
“Catholicism is fascinating television. This series is of great interest to viewers who want a better understanding of the impact and meaning this faith continues to have throughout the World,” said Dan Soles, WTTW’s Senior Vice President and Chief Television Content Officer. “I am pleased and honored that this production has a home with WTTW and that public television stations around the country have an opportunity to broadcast this important work,” he added.
Catholicism has consistently ranked in the Top 10 documentaries on Amazon, while tens of thousands of DVD box sets have been sold in less than three months on the market The companion book, Catholicism, published by Random House has also shown consistent popularity as well as the series study guides.
Father Robert Barron, the Francis Cardinal George Professor of Faith and Culture at Mundelein Seminary and a priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago, is the creator and host of the series.
The executive producer is acclaimed filmmaker Mike Leonard, a veteran correspondent for NBC s Today show and producer of the popular public television series Ride of Our Lives. Together, Fr. Barron and Leonard spent two years traveling the world with a crew of seasoned network television producers.
“The filming of the Catholicism series was one of the most exciting and rewarding periods of my life,” said Fr. Barron. “Our team traveled the globe to capture some of the beauty, truth, and texture of Catholicism. On the impact of Fr. Barron and the project on filmmaker and correspondent, Mike Leonard, and his son from working on the Catholicism Series:

“It’s an explanation, beautifully photographed and told, of the Catholic faith from the very beginning,” said Mike Leonard, a veteran correspondent for NBC-TV’s Today show.
The Catholicism project was born three years ago when Father Barron, a professor at Mundelein Seminary near Chicago, spoke at Mike Leonard’s home parish, Sacred Heart in Winnetka, Ill.
Leonard said he was impressed by Father Barron’s “brilliant” speaking style and ability to explain the faith in a clear and illuminating way. Leonard was approached by a parishioner, Nancy Ross, a former TV reporter, who wondered if there was a way for more people to hear Father Barron’s message.
When Leonard, Ross, and Father Barron met to discuss possibilities, the idea for the series took root. Ross began fund raising for the project, which was financed completely with private donations. Father Barron launched Word on Fire Catholic Ministries. Mike Leonard came aboard as executive producer and Matt Leonard as director and editor.
“I’m Catholic, but I’m just a regular one,” Mike Leonard said. “This was put together by regular people. It came from the pews.”
During breaks from his work for NBC, Leonard travelled with Father Barron’s crew. He can be heard as “the questioning voice” in the background of some segments, asking Father Barron to further explain Church teachings. Leonard said his own knowledge and understanding of the Church grew as a result, and he found his faith renewed.
“I think those of us who were part of the 1960s and beyond, you sort of took Catholicism for granted. You were born Catholic like you were born Italian or Irish,” Leonard said.
“Incredible” production routine
As the director, Matt Leonard spent two years traveling to Israel, Uganda, Greece, Turkey, Germany, France, Spain, Ireland, Calcutta, Rome, and Florence, and Mexico, along with spots in the United States. He reviewed scripts written by Father Barron, decided what scenes needed to be filmed and coordinated them with the camera crew.
Once home, he edited footage at the Leonard family’s production company, “Picture Show Films,” before leaving again for more travels.
The experience was “incredible,” Matt Leonard said.
“Working for Father Barron, who is this genius priest, really renewed my faith,” Matt Leonard said. “I feel more strongly a Catholic now.”

I plan on listening to some of the videos on the YouTube link tonight on my iPad in bed after hubby falls asleep. I have these earphones I just plug in...lol. I could really use some inspiration on life and meaning these days. Thank you so much.
I don’t know where you are. The Dominicans of the Eastern Province (north from Virginia and east from Ohio) are for the most part very sound. I think the Western Province is pretty good too.
It comes down to praying persistently for good spiritual guidance and remembering that God is NOT trying to make it hard for you.
Also, I think we have to decide that we are going to do our own study. When I converted in 1994 it was into a VERY liberal parish. Even they are coming around. I just decided not to let it faze me. I go to the pastor for the sacraments. I go to Aquinas for instruction and to wise and holy people for guidance.
The one legitimate complaint you can have against a Catholic is that he is not talking or acting like a Catholic. He is not "thinking with the Church." In other words, he is outside the Truth because he is not living the faith and morals proposed by the auhentic teachings of the Church.
Where I fall short (and this is daily) I know that the problem isn't that Church does not propose the truth, but that I am not faithful to it.
I am a pretty thoroughgoing hypocrite.
However, that's why one has to forge on with confidence, not permitting oneself to be thrown off track by sinners. There will always be a sinner sitting next to you at church. There will always be a sinner in the pulpit. There will always be a sinner looking back at you in the mirror.
But in this Church you can find Christ: the Way, the Truth and the Life.

I have issues with the Church, mostly due to human vanity & incompetence (sometimes others, sometimes my own, LOL). But I know that the Ulimtate Truth of the Church is unquestionable — though I may personally fail it. It’s the people who administer for Her who can cause grief. That said.... I pray that you join us in the home of Christianity.

Thank you very much WB. I have never met a Catholic that I didn’t like but perhaps I will if I join the church....lol. Thankfully, the church is for sinners though or we would all be thrown out when we fall short of the glory of God.
The music was the hardest thing to leave behind -- but I actually think that our music program is now better than the one in our former Episcopal parish.
We were so "high" that the only points on which we had any difference with the Church were the validity of Anglican orders and the supremacy of the Pope. So it wasn't really a very difficult decision for us. But if I can answer any questions, just fire away.
Be persistent, and be inquisitive. Unless there is only one parish in your area, you are going to find a good deal of variation in both theology and liturgy, because as James Joyce said, the Catholic Church is "HERE COMES EVERYBODY!"
EWTN Shortwave radio is great - mostly, if not all, conservative Catholics host the show.
