RNC to feature members of Romney's church, Ron Paul tribute
Los Angeles Times ^ | August 24, 2012 | Michael A. Memoli

Posted on 08/25/2012 4:25:01 AM PDT by Zakeet

The marquee night of next week's Republican National Convention will feature testimonials from individuals who worked with Mitt Romney in his local church – the most expansive discussion yet by the GOP hopeful's campaign of his Mormon faith.

A senior Romney official who briefed reporters Friday morning said that among the representatives of the church who will be featured Thursday would be someone who followed him as the leader of the faith community and who would talk "about what it was like to fill Gov. Romney's shoes."

Others will be those who Romney "helped in different times of their lives," Romney campaign strategist Russ Schriefer said.

It's part of an evening in which the campaign plans to tell Romney's story "in a very complete way." It also will include more than a dozen Olympians, including 1980 U.S. men's hockey gold medalist Mike Eruzione, who lit the torch at the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Games that Romney ran.

Not mentioned on the call as part of the Thursday proceedings was Romney's business record, a part of his resume the Obama campaign has zeroed in on during the summer.

So what is the “Mormon” solution? Mormon only drinking fountains? Mormon only restaurants? Mormon only rest rooms? Two can play this hyperbole game.

You really need help.
Actually read what I wrote, is the information correct or not.
For reasons known only to yourself, you are projecting onto my posts things I am not saying.
Why is that?

It is you calling to shut people up about speaking freely on religion, you cannot remove our Constitutional right to speak on Mormonism, so cut it out.

By the way, not all of Mormon practices are legal, the federal government had a different view on their polygamy, luckily, God changed his mind for them in 21 years before Reagan was born.

I’m sorry, while I am voting for Ryan and Romney, have donated and have a R&R sticker on my car, I have a real problem with anyone who believes that 1800 years after Jesus, a guy found a book that shows that America was settled by Jews — not to mention that he believes many other truly made up Mormon beliefs. I’m trying to ignore that, as a Lutheran Christian!

I am only defending their right to privately practice as they so choose, again within our laws, which you seem to have a problem with. Your “projection” smacks of disapproval of anyone who believes differently from you.

Your predication of “lds” before God and before Jesus Christ is your opinion and in such caries about as much weight as does their beliefs which are their opinion, no matter what the H it is.

So if you are so exercised about having anything to do with the mention of lds in the arena of public debate then go ahead and vote for your Homey Barry because he needs all the help he can get from those who are so friggin tolerant, in their opinion.

Ok, your post is projecting on me what I did not say.
mormons are free to practice their belief, I never said otherwise it is their constitutional right.
The information I provided is correct, if you would like to see their leaders words or their BofM or D&C quotes I can provide them, it is not just my opinion is it is what lds teach.
I am not as you put it exercised about the public debate of mormonism, I long for its exposure. The more exposure the better.
I get that you have a sister who apparently converted to mormonism and I am sorry about that.
So you understand where my knowledge comes from with regards to mormonism, I have a huge mormon family. They are in every aspect of the lds structure, some of the distant mormon relatives can trace their line to Joseph Smith, I am not uninformed about who and what mormonism is.
I am concerned about people trapped in mormoism, with in my family I have seen great tragedy directly related to it.
I am concerned about peoples souls.
mormonism presents itself as something it is not.
If you as a Catholic/Christian do not understand that mormonism drives people away from God not towards Him, I am sorry.
I will not stop trying to expose mormonism for what it is, and no sir there is nothing you can do about that.
You see I understand these peoples very souls are at stake.

Do you want your right to practice your faith infringed upon because some other nutbag religious sect thinks ours is an abomination?

I'm sorry I wasn't more clear.

Their PRACTICE of their hellish rites are not trying to be suppressed; but the INFORMATION about them seem to be.

Do you REALLY want a country where one CANNOT speak openly about the demonic practices of a certain group?

A am Christian, yet there are ‘Christian’ denominations other than LDS that I believe have rather ‘hellish practices’.

LDS is NOT a 'denomination'.

It's not just 'evangelicals', but ALL of mainstream Christianity makes this claim.

I’m trying to ignore that, as a Lutheran Christian!

As a 'christian' who has read the Book; I WILL not ignore the fact that FALSE TEACHINGS are to be exposed and rebuked.

Romans 15:4
For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

Romans 16:17
I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.

1 Corinthians 4:17
For this reason I am sending to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church.

1 Corinthians 11:2
 2.  I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the teachings,  just as I passed them on to you.

Ephesians 4:14-15
 14.  Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.
 15.  Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.

2 Thessalonians 2:15
So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings  we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.

2 Thessalonians 3:6
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers, to keep away from every brother who is idle and does not live according to the teaching  you received from us.

1 Timothy 1:3-4
 3.  As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer
 4.  nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work--which is by faith.

1 Timothy 1:7
They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.

1 Timothy 2:7
And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.

1 Timothy 4:1-2
 1.  The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
 2.  Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.

1 Timothy 4:6
If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed.

1 Timothy 4:11
  Command and teach these things.

1 Timothy 6:3-5
 3.  If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching,
 4.  he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions
 5.  and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

2 Timothy 1:13
What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus.

 2 Timothy 2:15-17
 15.  Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
 16.  Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.
 17.  Their teaching will spread like gangrene.

2 Timothy 3:16-17
 16.  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
 17.  so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

 2 Timothy 4:3-4
  3.  For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
  4.  They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

Titus 1:11
They must be silenced, because they are ruining whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach--and that for the sake of dishonest gain.

Titus 2:1
You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine.

Titus 2:15
These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.

 Hebrews 13:9
Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings.

 2 Peter 2:1-3
 1.  But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.
 2.  Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.
 3.  In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

2 John 1:10
If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him.

Acts 17:18-19
 18.  A group of Epicurean and Stoic philosophers began to dispute with him. Some of them asked, "What is this babbler trying to say?" Others remarked, "He seems to be advocating foreign gods." They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and the resurrection.
 19.  Then they took him and brought him to a meeting of the Areopagus, where they said to him, "May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting?

Acts 18:11
So Paul stayed for a year and a half, teaching them the word of God.

Are you sure you're not LDS? ... I mean, you use the very same misdirection, diversion, and mishcaraterization tactics the LDSinc apologists use:

"... then feel as comfortable as you can to throw that first stone at the Mormons as a whole."

There are a few outspoken voices ar FR, Jim Robinson included, who do not believe MormonISM is Christianity. The people caught in the ISM are not going to have stones thrown at them by these outspoken voices, but the ISM is fair game for posting their own teachings and faith foundation documents. Yes, these threads get twisted into attack the Morman presidentail candidate by using his religions' teachings and beliefs as ammunition, but you don't help stop that by playing these deceitful apologetics ploys, like switching the focus from the ISM to the adherents. ... Are you sure you're not a Mormon pretending to be a non-Mormon?

I will grant you one point, that we are witnessing incessant attacks on the adherent, Mitt Romney, in the name of attacking the beliefs of ISM. That is a sad fact at FR of late, but this thread is at least not int he religion forum, though it is doing the media's dirty work, attacking the candidate based upon his religion.

Incidentally, you do not see Jim Robinson doing that media devilry, do you! So why are you helping to inflame the thread by playing bait and switch and mischaracterization games?

Oh???

Temple Worthy MORMONs make THIS vow:

Law of Sacrifice: The posterity of Adam down to Moses, and from Moses to Jesus Christ offered up the first fruits of the field, and the firstlings of the flock, which continued until the death of Jesus Christ, which ended sacrifice by the shedding of blood. And as Jesus Christ has laid down his life for the redemption of mankind, so we should covenant to sacrifice all that we possess, even our own lives if necessary, in sustaining and defending the Kingdom of God

The kingdom of God on earth exists wherever the priesthood of God is (TPJS, pp. 271-74). At present it is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I will draw the line when I am told I have to go to that church as well

Well, interestingly enough, that is exactly what they teach.

Not only that, but to reach heaven you have to accept Joseph Smith as a prophet and pass by him on your way into heaven.

The whole premise of LDS teachings is that all Christianity is wrong and that "god" sent Mormonism to restore the church.

According to them, you CANNOT have a relationship with God without being a part of their Church.

So what now for you?

I don’t see anyone trying to deny mormons their rights to practice.

What I do see are folks defending Christianity from mormonism. A religion that claims all other Christians are apostates, spawns of satan or belong to the church erstwhile described as the “whore of Babylon” [Catholic].

If mormonism can attack Christianity, claim it is the “restored” gospel of Christ, label all Christians as apostates, then why can’t Christians contend for their faith as Evangelicals, Baptists, Lutherans, Catholics, etc.?

Why must Christians be silent on the matter? Why can’t we challenge mormon doctrine and theology when they are claiming that JS supposedly met with a “personage”, who claimed that all of us were apostates? Why must we accept their claim that JS purportedly met with Christ in contravention to Acts 1:9-11 in addition to the myriad other claims they made and continue to make?

Their “beliefs” are theirs, can’t and won’t argue that. We each have our own.

Otoh, their doctrine, teachings and theology are wide open to criticism and examination, just as our own are.

Unfortunately, your red herring about 0bama is just that. Red. Their are many on FR who view mormonism in a negative way who have already stated they’re voting for R/R.

I guess we should also suspend our belief system that would have us contend for the faith and be on the lookout for the wolves within the flock?
