New revelation: Mormons can drink Coke or Pepsi
National Post ^ | Sep 4, 2012 | Religion News Service

SALT LAKE CITY — Maybe now, reporters, bloggers, outsiders and even many Mormons will accept that the Utah-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not forbid drinking cola.

On Aug. 29, the LDS church posted a statement on its website saying that “the church does not prohibit the use of caffeine” and that the faith’s health-code reference to “hot drinks” “does not go beyond (tea and coffee).”

A day later, the website wording was slightly softened, saying only that “the church revelation spelling out health practices … does not mention the use of caffeine.”

The same goes for the church’s two-volume handbook, which LDS leaders use to guide their congregations. It says plainly that “the only official interpretation of ‘hot drinks’ … in the Word of Wisdom is the statement made by early church leaders that the term ‘hot drinks’ means tea and coffee.”

BREAKING NEWS! BREAKING NEWS! BREAKING NEWS! BREAKING NEWS! BREAKING NEWS! BREAKING NEWS!

"ATTENTION: This week's revelation from the Planet Kolob is that soft-drinks are now OK to drink. However, do not spill them on the Sacred Underroos which as you know, have secret Masonic Symbols. This remains a sin. ALL mormons must now drink soft drinks publicly to make our religion look more "normal" and improve Mitt's odds of putting one of us into the White House. That is all. Obey."

So posting an article is not Christ like, what He doesn’t like us to read newspapers?

"Although I can't think of any kneeslappers coming out of Judaism off the top of my head. "

Well there was the bruised face pharasees. So called because when they saw a woman they would so violently turn away that they would bash into walls.

But you won't find a command to do that in their scripture.

“I ridicule Mormonism in hopes that some of it’s adherents will wake up”

You should reevaluate your tactics. You are only making yourself look bad.

Source?
Do you know what those verses mean?
If you read before and after, we are to judge everything against the Word of God.
Mormonism has been judged and it is found lacking.

The Friday fast (only one main meal a day and two light meals that do not equal another main meal) and the abstinence are ways of honoring the death of Christ on the Cross.

We choose our way for a purpose.

Tell me, when did truth become bigotry?

Could you provide a citation from the Catholic Catechism indicating when eating meat on Friday was a mortal sin? Just asking. Thanks

“You are not acting in a Christ like spirit and you know it.”

Not sure how you know that much about me.

Again, seriously, if Person A has an issue with how Person B is portraying the teachings of Christ (which I will admit I do vis a vis Mormanism), is it appropriate for Person A to “call out” Person B while still acting in a Christ like spirit?

Some would say that such “calling out” is exactly what Christ did with that aid of a whip to the money changers.

These are not easy issues. That is what makes them appropriate for Religion threads.

Romney or Obama will be the next President. When you spend all your time like this trash talking Romney, you are actively working to re-elect 0.

Romney agrees with 85% of our position. Obama is 100% opposed to everything we claim to be for.

Obama is pro infanticide, Romney is not.

So why are some of you so desperate to help reelect a Pro-infanticide President?

That might not be the intent of your actions, it is the result of them

And spare me the bluster about being in a “safe” state. How your state is likely to go in no way absolves your active campaigning for 0.

If I remember right, there were at least 3 different versions of that first alleged vision recorded by Smith. And all three varied in important details including the date.

I'd ridicule them for that. But StephenFlorida, will think I'm a bigot just for pointing out an inconsistency that ought not exist if Smith was a prophet of God like he claimed.

I am not a member of the Mormon bashers.
But if there was one good thing about LDS’s dietary rules, NOT drinking Pepsi, Coke, etc., was probably it!

I used to visit chat rooms, and when the topic turned to religion, liberals often tried to misuse “judge not” in order to protect false teaching. It’s only recently that I’ve seen this same thing coming from conservatives, and it’s disturbing.

The truth is that Scripture tells us TO judge, and how to do it. An example is John 7:24, when Jesus tells us, “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.” Matthew 7:1 is often used to try and tell Christians never to judge, when in fact, when the whole passage is read, Jesus is telling us HOW to judge (i.e., not to judge someone if you are guilty of the same thing he is doing). Also, in Luke 12, Jesus asks, “Why, even of yourselves, do you not judge what is right?”

Bottom line: we as Christians are instructed over and over to discern, to test all things-—not to throw away all discernment and abandon the truth. THESE are Christ’s teachings.

"You are not acting in a Christ like spirit and you know it."

You just made a judgement, all the while telling the rest of us we can't judge. Are you the exception...?

As Jesus said:

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”

Enough said. Have a nice day.

Romney doesn’t agree with 85% of our position. Maybe 15%. And even that is suspect because Romney is Mr. Etch-A-Sketch.

I’m indifferent between the two candidates and you will find me bashing both of them.

So YOU agree with Romney 85% on of his positions, well that might be true.

I on there hand might agree with 10% of his positions.

I do not agree with these Romney positions:
abortion
homosexual agenda
man made global warming
government mandates
government health care
gun grabs
as he says “higher taxes on the 1%”
bail outs
liberal judges

Romney supports abortion, all abortion is infanticide.
