Catholic Priest Admits 14-Year Gay Marriage, Says Forced Celibacy Leads to Abuse

Father Bernard Lynch, a homosexual Catholic priest and activist known for defying Vatican teachings, has once again challenged the Roman Catholic Church by revealing that he has been married to a man for the past 14 years. Lynch also blames teachings on celibacy for the child sex abuse cases gripping the Catholic Church.

Something like 30% of sexual abuse cases involve homosexuals—a group of 2% of the population.

This means homosexuals as a group, clearly have an abuse problem. Does this mean all abuse? No, but if 2% are doing 30% of the abusing, a MUCH higher percentage must be abusers than amidst hetrosexuals.

It would be surprising that for a life that requires celibacy—in our sex-saturated world—an undue number of men struggling with homosexual tendancies wouldn’t want it. You grow up in a religious home—and struggle with same-sex attraction as a teen—and the priesthood would seem to be a good place to go—since you know it’s wrong, and you cannot fulfill your sexual desires...so go and be celibate!

I really don’t see why it’s not self evident that the celibacy requirement is bound to attract more of that 2% than other callings.

If you ask any Roman Catholic scholar who’s studied the percentage of homosexual-oriented priests too—they will tell you it is a LOT more than 2%...

Scripturally, a person may choose to remain unmarried, and therefore celibate, for many reasons but if that proves not to be agreeable or they lack the self control such might call for, then marriage is proper.

There is an alternative to fornication.

Celibacy leads to abuse? LOL! So instead of sneaking out on the Church and having a nice, quiet hetero fling, celibacy leads one to go abuse children of the same sex.

Yup. Makes sense to me.

I am a Christian, not a Catholic.

Left Catholicism after they wanted $500 to dissolve my marriage after my divorce. So I can’t get married in a Catholic church.

The part about priests not being allowed to marry, because the church didn’t want their assets diluted by offspring, really turned me off too.

Follow the money.

Just because I posted this does not mean I don’t love Jesus. I do. I don’t like my experience with the Catholic church.

Obviously Lynch is offering excuses for his own behavior and inclinations. Just as those who do go out and have “a nice, quiet hetero fling”.

The problem, I think, is that many men with a homosexual tendency AND a strong religious feeling sought out the priesthood, either because they wished to escape their homosexuality, or because they felt no call to marriage and thought that they should serve the Church instead.

When they were exposed to a temptation in seminary or later, some succumbed and then justified it to themselves.

IMO it isn’t celibacy as such that is the problem but a poor discernment process, the bishops being unwilling to take action that reduce the number of men entering the priesthood, and a degree of outright corruption.

A priest once told a friend of mine, speaking of the days when boys entered seminary in their teens, “At that age you are programmed to fall in love.”

Well the whole notion of having a human priesthood in the Christian church is totally UN-Christian as is charging a fee for services like marriages, etc.

What we're seeing is the rotten fruit of that tree.

Most sexual abusers are married.

I don't believe that, I would like to see those statistics that prove that most sexual abusers as "married", and married does not mean people shacking up and drifting in and out of hook up relationships.

Thank You. No kidding. As a ‘82 graduate of Detroit Catholic Central I can at-est to the great men-Priests that were my teachers, and role models. These Men were all past military, boxers, atheletes, and learned men. There was not even a hint of Homo in any of them. Coincedentaly Thad McCotter graduated a year after me. I drank, and partied with some at Friday night football games. The knowledge they imparted to me stays with me to this day. Teach me Goodness, Dicipline, and Knowledge. Worked for me. By the way McCotter is a Rino. Good riddance.

MCB.

but the one thing I agree with him on is that celibacy teachings may be largely responsible for the rampant homosexuality and child abuse. I suspect if priests were allowed (not encouraged, but allowed) to marry, much of this might be avoided.

That makes zero sense.

If a Priest needed to have sex, then he could pursue women like any other cheating man, change clothes and hit the clubs across town, or buy a hooker, or if you were really low, submit to one of the many females that come on to the collar.

If celibacy was too much for him, he was in the wrong vocation.

Aside from that, in Catholic teaching, homosexuals are called to live chaste lives. He's clearly not.

On top of that he's a "married" priest which is only acceptable if a priest has come from a Christian sect that accepts married clergy like Episcopalians.

Homosexuality is the problem here, not the vow of celibacy.

I don’t dispute the large percentage of homosexual abusers. And the priests abusing in the Catholic Church were almost entirely homosexual. I dispute Fast Moving Angel’s assertion that celibacy is causing this behavior. I have had to live a chaste life for decades as a single person. Such a life doesn’t tempt me in the slightest to become a homosexual or much less commit crimes.

I should have said that married men are just as likely to be abusers as unmarried men.

If celibacy is the problem, then why do non-Catholic clergy numbers exceed those of the priesthood????

However, I do not get the “forced” into celibacy thing this guy is claiming. No one is forced into celibacy, it is a choice freely given when you enter Catholic ministry as a priest. You do not wish to be celibate, don’t enter the ministry, its really simple.

I agree. This guy knew all along what would be required of him if he chose to be a Catholic priest. For someone who is in a homosexual "relationship" and supposedly "married" for 14 years, even IF heterosexual marriage of priests were allowed, he would STILL choose being a homosexual. It's really a straw man. The Catholic priesthood has for over a thousand years been a refuge for many homosexuals who wanted to escape societal norms that expected a man to be married and raise a family. Read St. Peter Damian's Book of Gomorrah sometime. It has been an ongoing embarrassment for the Roman Catholic Church.

Too often, problem teachers are allowed to leave quietly. That can mean future abuse for another student and another school district.

“They might deal with it internally, suspending the person or having the person move on. So their license is never investigated,” says Charol Shakeshaft, a leading expert in teacher sex abuse who heads the educational leadership department at Virginia Commonwealth University.

It’s a dynamic so common it has its own nicknames—“passing the trash” or the “mobile molester.”

Laws in several states require that even an allegation of sexual misconduct be reported to the state departments that oversee teacher licenses. But there’s no consistent enforcement, so such laws are easy to ignore.

School officials fear public embarrassment as much as the perpetrators do, Shakeshaft says. They want to avoid the fallout from going up against a popular teacher. They also don’t want to get sued by teachers or victims, and they don’t want to face a challenge from a strong union.

This is not a “marriage” as we are led to believe. This “marriage” taken to its logical consequence will mean the end of the human race in one generation. If it is good for “them,” it is good for “everyone.” Ha Ha, what a joke, a deadly and pernicious joke.
