New San Francisco Archbishop Must Accept Homosexuals, Says Former Catholic Charities Director
Catholic Culture ^ | 10/5/12

On the day that Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone was installed as the head of the San Francisco archdiocese, the former director of the archdiocesan office of Catholic Charities published an op-ed column warning that the incoming prelate should not stress Catholic teachings regarding the sanctity of marriage.

“No one expects him to be silent on church teaching, but he has a choice to make,” wrote Brian Cahill in the San Francisco Chronicle. He continued:

He can continue to be the aggressive, outspoken leader of the American Catholic bishops in their effort to prevent civil gay marriage, or he can be the shepherd of his flock. He can't be both, and if he tries, he will fail.

Our ninth archbishop of San Francisco

I’m sure he accepts them, and will try to help them.

Where are the people pushing for Jews and muslims to serve pork and open bidding to all food vendors, not just those who meet their religious codes?

Heck, where are the homos pushing for Islamists to accept same sex marriage in SF?

and will try to help them.

Californication law now permits the Sex Positive Agenda 18 years access to your kids to sway them to hedonism.

only those persons over 18 can be counseled and helped now.

From the article:
"Hopefully, he will not surround himself only with orthodox thinkers, but rather listen to a variety of points of view from his priests and parishioners."

The only thing he should hear from those who don't accept orthodox Catholic doctrine is their confession of sin and promise to repent.

More brilliance from Brian Cahill:

Religious liberty and credibility, where he opens with:

"The recent compromise by the Obama administration on its proposed mandate of contraception was an appropriate response to legitimate and widespread Catholic concerns about religious liberty. Most Catholic organizations affected by the mandate found the compromise acceptable. The major holdout is the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Even though the bishops have no credibility with their teachings on contraception, they were supported by the majority of Catholics in their initial response to the mandate."

Why let bishops drive us from church we love?, where he opens with:

"Well-informed U.S. Catholics are acutely aware of the arrogance, paternalism, flawed logic, inflammatory rhetoric, failure of personal accountability, and lack of pastoral sensitivity of many of our church leaders. The U.S. bishops have set the tone with their continued denial of the wholesale rejection of church teaching on contraception; their clumsy, heavy-handed, ineffective attempt to influence national health care legislation; their opposition to U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development regulations prohibiting discrimination against gays and lesbians; and their condemnation of the work of theologian St. Joseph Sr. Elizabeth Johnson without even meeting with her."

Also of note, Cahill served as the director of "Catholic" Charities of San Francisco from 2000 to early 2009. In 2008, his organization gave a "Loaves and Fishes" award, complete with a gala award dinner, to George Marcus, a real-estate mogul who donates to Planned Parenthood, and embryonic stem-cell research ballot initiatives.

Pray for the soul and malformed conscious of Brian Cahill.

Go to hell, Brian.

Hey, Christians must NEVER wish that on anyone!

What did Christ tell us when He handed down the Lord's Prayer?

Our Father,
Who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

A pretty straightforward reading of the above is that if we condemn others to hell, we're putting ourselves at the same risk.

Defeat sin, but save sinners!

How can it be that nobody has explained this to Cahill in his whole life in the Church? He sets up a false dichotomy: Defend the truth about Marriage, or be a Shepherd to your Flock.

Correction: change the "or" to "and".

Of course they should be accepted.The ones you want most to be attending Mass are the biggest sinners.On Sunday morning,the sermon should routinely be on the Sixth Commandment.

who also might help him understand how to manage the tension between church teaching and how the church can fulfill its mission in a pluralistic society

I guess the question is, "What is the mission of the church"? If it is not to lead sinners to Christ, then what is it? And if it has to compromise God's commandments and Christ's teachings to do so, has it led them to Christ?

I know the people in the pews at San Francisco’s Catholic churches, and the parents of the parochial school kids.

They certainly don’t think the way this fellow seems to think they do. The vast majority who show up for Sunday Mass in San Francisco are Hispanics and Filipinos who are very conservative and have no problem at all with the Archbishop.

If that guy represents anyone, its a few wealthy liberals among whom he fund-raises, and a few of the clergy.

I’m agnostic.

Plus, I’ve spent a lifetime of being on the receiving end of “Go to hell, Brian” so if I have an excuse to say it, I’m going to.

:p

Brian cahill is the person who made SF Catholic Charities a ‘gay friendly place’ and a very ‘gay friendly place to work’. Are there any Freepers who have some anecdotes about how CC of SF became queer central under this pos’s direction.
