Sons of Perdition: How Certain Catholic Priests Turned the Kennedys Pro-Abortion
Patrick Madrid's Blog ^ | 10/4/12 | Patrick Madrid

Awhile back, The Wall Street Journal ran a fascinating and deeply saddening article exploring the reasons behind the Kennedy Family’s staunch pro-abortion position.

Believe it or not, Ted Kennedy used to be pro-life.

So how did he and all the other prominent Kennedys swing so far in the wrong direction? For that matter, what about some of the other Catholic pro-abortion zealots in (or recently in) high public office, such as Nancy Pelosi, Mario Cuomo, and Tom Daschle? What happened to them?

(NB: I originally posted this blog entry on January 2, 2009. Given all the chattering right now from Catholics who feel they can vote for pro-abortion candidates with impunity and without compromising their Catholic identity (and without committing sin), I post it again because of its pertinence to the late Ted Kennedy’s life and legacy, such as it was.)

This article alleges that it was was an intentional, systematic, concerted effort on the part of a group of dissenting Catholic theologians (including Fr. Richard McCormick, Fr. Charles Curran, Fr. Joseph Fuchs, Fr. Robert Drinan, and Fr. John Courtney Murray), who spent a good deal of of time with the Kennedys in the mid 1960s employing bogus moral theology arguments to convince them they could “accept and promote abortion with a clear conscience.” Once this was accomplished, these same Judas priests undertook to literally coach the Kennedy’s on what to say and how to vote in favor of abortion in their public lives.

Given the Kennedys’ enormous influence over American politics, it’s diabolically logical for those dissenting Catholic theologians to have targeted this renowned and respected Catholic family for “conversion.” They were in the perfect position to persuade other Catholics, and even many Protestants, that it’s okay to be pro-abortion.

And this strategy worked so well that, today, it.....

Wasn’t Drinan the one who got elected to Congress? If so Pope JP II forced him to step down.

The Church should excommunicate politicians that back abortion.

Chicken and egg. Did the priests convince the Kennedys or did the politics of the Democratic party convince them and then they searched for heretical priests to provide cover?

I realize that this is a 2009 article, but the author said:
And this strategy worked so well that, today, it is virtually impossible to find a Catholic politician holding national public office who is pro-life.
At the time I think that Rick Santorum was still in office, and certainly Paul Ryan was in office -- two of the most pro-life politicians in recent memory. Oh, wait a minute. Maybe the author meant DEMOCRAT Catholic pro-life politicians are impossible to find. That certainly would be true, but REPUBLICAN Catholic pro-life politicians abound..., thanks be to God.

No question that most of those priests were trouble-making heretics. I’m not so sure about Fr. John Courtney Murray. He was a “modernist,” all right. But his writings are a good deal more nuanced, and I’m not at all sure that he was a heretic. Certainly not a deliberate heretic and Church-underminer like the others. He was often cited by others as an excuse for their dissident ways, but it’s not always clear that he really supported them.

Just a sidenote, in a way. Otherwise, the article is certainly true. Although, to be frank, the Kennedys were mobsters, and they were extremely willing to violate Church teachings if it suited them. It didn’t take much to twist them around.

I don’t respect them. The kennedy’s decided to descend into evil after inviting evil into their lives. There is no excuse.

The Kennedy's didn't really need a priest or two, or even a dozen to tell them that abortion is a convenient way to get rid of embarrassing grandchilluns' ~ they just looked to their father who had their possibly wayward sister LOBOTOMIZED as a guide to their own morality.

The entire Kennedy crowd including relatives, hangers on, running dog lackeys and in-laws are EVIL

“Personally, I am against abortion, but the courts have ruled on this issue.”
The psychopaths that run the Democrat party believe that our planet can only support 30 million people. The fact that it currently supports billions of people is quite an inconvenient truth for them. They are getting old and they realize that abortion will not reduce the world population to the level they want it to be. What next? Death panels? Once you start down that road, where do you draw the line? And the Moslems are smiling all the while.

With the RC Church it all about the money. The hierarchy made a financial decision to make certain the donation flow from this group Kennedy, Pelosi, and their misguided followers ad nauseum would continue to flow.

The RC Church is not the oldest most profitable multinational corporation in human history for altruistic reasons.

He endorsed and was succeeded by Barney Frank.

You are right about that fact that pro-life GOP legistlators are abundant as opposed to their counterparts in the Democrat party.

Actually, in 2009 there were still some Catholic pro-lifers in the US Congress (not in the Senate). Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi purged the party of the last vestige when the double crossed Bart Stupak (ambushed him might be a better term.) The die was cast earlier when the Catholic, ,pro-life governor of Pennsylvania, Bob Casey (Senior) asked to speak to the Dem. convention being held in NYC in 1996, but was denied.

Now there are no Catholic Democrats who are pro-life anywhere near to Washington DC circles.

And what is it you allege the hierarchy did to keep donations flowing?

A heart breaking read of what democrats use to believe, even the old timer union members. Exemplary of all Christian denominations of any serious doctrine, until birth control pills became the campus rage.

It is the secularized world that has penetrated the Church in the West that will be discussed. We see the establishment of Catholics-in-name-only running amok, piercing the pious and devout Catholic who see the attempt to extinguish the light of Christ in His Church on earth as an expected and increasing satanic attack.

We were not without warning. We are preparing for persecution and pray to stand, keeping our eyes on things above and not on earth. Many will fall.
