Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

A New Journey…The Names of God in The Scriptures

YHVH IS MY BANNER (Yahveh Nissi)

Exodus 17

According to the Book of Exodus in the Bible, Jehovah-Nissi (or more accurately Yahweh-Nissi, YHWH Is My Banner), was a Name Attributed to God after the Defeat of the Amalakites.

8 The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. 9 Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.”

10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.

14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven.”

15 Moses built an altar and called it The Lord is my Banner. 16 He said, “Because hands were lifted up against the throne of the Lord, the Lord will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation.”

The first word of the phrase is the Tetragrammaton יהוה, the sacred name that, according to the Hebrew Bible, God revealed to the Jews as a chosen people. It is generally translated in English bibles as "the LORD". Jehovah is a Christian anglicized vocalization of this name.

The Septuagint translators believed nis·si′ to be derived from nus (flee for refuge) and rendered it "the Lord My Refuge", while in the Vulgate it was thought to be derived from na·sas′ (hoist; lift up) and was rendered "Jehovah Is My Exaltation".

In many modern Christian translations, such as the New International Version, the name is translated “the LORD is my banner."

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Dear Father in Heaven,
How Wonderful is Your Name!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise and Worship,
For You Alone Are The One True God.
Thank You For being Our Banner,
Thank You For Giving Us Your Standard, Raised High
So that We Can See it and be filled with hope,
Even though We Are Weary from Battle.
Just at the Star Spangled Banner, flying over Ft McHenry,
Gave Francis Scott Key the Inspiration to write our National Anthem,
Just As The Flag Raising on Mt. Suribachi Spurred Our Troops to Victory at Iwo Jima,
And Just as Old Glory rising from the ashes of the World Trade Center on 9/11 Inspired Our Nation,
The Staff of Moses held Aloft Brought Victory for the Children of Israel.
Thank You for Showing us how Important a "Banner" Can Be,
And For giving us such Amazing Examples from Our Own History.
And, as Your Word tells Us, that when the enemy comes flooding in, YOU Raise A Banner Against Them.
And Elsewhere, in Song of Solomon, You reveal that Your Banner over us is LOVE!
Thank You LORD, For These Powerful Life Lessons that You provide to us.

As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning.

We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem.
We Pray for Our Own Leaders in America,
May They Speak Comfort to Jerusalem.
May We NOT be Numbered Among Israel's Enemies, God Forbid!
We Pray For The American People,
May They NOT be Deceived by the Media.
May Their Eyes be Opened with regard to God's People Israel.

We pray for an END to Lies,
Slander, Blood Libel, Propaganda,
and Antisemitism against Your Beloved.
We Pray For an End to Slavery,
Hostage-Taking,
and Piracy wherever it is Practiced Around the World.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Plead For Israeli Control Over All the Holy Sites in Israel,
so that All Faiths may visit them.
We Pray For Bibi Netanyahu, and the Leaders of Israel
May They Receive Wisdom from You to do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

AMEN. Thanks for the prayer and great teaching. Have to confess that I never really understood what “banner” meant.
