My older brother underwent surgery for a disk problem four days ago. The surgery apparently went well but the recovery is going very poorly. Your prayers are appreciated.

I'll be praying for your brother. I have had FOUR surgeries on my back - two discectomies/laminectomies, two spinal fusions. Post surgery for a ruptured disc that is pressing on the sciatic nerve can take more than two weeks before the nerve pain is abated, depending on how long and how severely the nerve has been pinched. After a few weeks, he should definitely be feeling better, though it can take one to two YEARS to fully recover. I finally had to have another surgery to have a spinal cord stimulator implanted, and it has helped a lot.

I'm praying that his pain is eased, he can relax, he is encouraged to stick with therapy (it helps a bunch!) and that he has peace about knowing the Lord is with him and will never leave him. I hope his immediate family can be there for him and they won't get discouraged if recovery is taking time - everyone heals differently. I hope he won't give up - having intense pain for a long time can really mess with your head - and that he stays positive.
