Bishop vs. Bishop: Lutheran Calls Out Catholic Over Marriage
Seattle Post-Intelligencer ^ | 10/16/12 | Joel Connolly

The retired presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Rt. Rev. Herbert Chilstrom, has delivered a stinging, public critique of his former Roman Catholic counterpart in Minnesota for aggressively campaigning for an anti-same sex marriage amendment on the November ballot.

“I recognize your authority in formulating positions for your own flock in Minnesota: That is one thing,” Chilstrom said in a letter to Roman Catholic Archbishop John Nienstedt, published in the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

“But for you and others to campaign for an amendment that imposes your stance on all citizens in Minnesota — including other Christians, believers of other faith groups and unbelievers — it is overstepping your bounds.”

Minnesota is one of four states voting on marriage this November. Washington, Maryland and Maine will cast ballots on whether to approve marriage equality. In Minnesota, Nienstedt has put $650,000 in church money into promoting the state constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex marriage.

A church is a living entity. Once the Spirit departs, though, it dies. All you are left with is an empty shell of a religion. Nothing left to do but call in the realtors.

The phallic worshipers started out pretending just wanted others to ignore what they did in their own homes and bedrooms. Now we're seeing what they had in mind all along. They want everyone else to not only be well aware of what they do in private, they're demanding that the everyone publicly recognize and approve of what they themselves said was their, "private behavior".

This has nothing to do with their "Civil Rights" or "Human Rights". It's a small percentage of the population demanding the to have their hideous and unnatural behavior accepted and approved of by the society at large in spite of the fact that the majority believe such folks are disgusting perverts deliberately mocking God through their behavior.

The fact that so many people see nothing wrong with giving in to their demands shows that Christ has already given this nation over to a reprobate mind. Of course, some of us knew that when King Barry was elected because only reprobates

Exactly. As others have said, the problem isn't the mediocrity sitting in the White House, its the 50% of Americans that didn't notice what a mediocrity he is.

There is a kind of corruption of the spirit that renders you incapable of distinguishing right from wrong and good from evil. Once it reaches critical mass in a society you have dark days ahead. And no way of knowing why.

As usual in these stories, the person described as “Lutheran” is really not. He’s ELCA.

Should be obvious since only the ELCA and NALC use the term "bishop"...but we can't expect the average newspaper reader to know the intricacies of ecclesial nomenclature.

With people like Rev. Herbert Chilstrom, working for him the devil is making his great last stand.

The Lutheran “Church” is a joke and their “bishops” have no authority because they broke away from God’s Pilgrim Church on Earth, hence, they no apostolic line of succession. There is one Holy Christian Church and that is the Catholic Church.

I would think that if the Catholic church was a holy Christian Church every one of the Catholics, would have voted against Obama, as he is for same sex marriage which is an abomation but they did,nt. as for the other i have no argument except

As for the apostles i only recognize the twelve.

There is a major distinction in REAL CATHOLICS, and fallen away “Catholics” who attend Church once a year at Christmas, and never go to reconciliation. They do not follow the teachings of the faith and shouldn’t call themselves Catholic, because if you don’t abide by the teachings of the Catholic Church, you are no longer a Catholic. The Catholic Church has been putting up with disbelievers for the last 2,000 years. It’s not easy being Catholic. It’s not for wimps.

I agree, any one who is willing to give their life for Christ is not a wimp, but of course that remains to be seen.

I can say that i am willing but when the time comes will i be the wimp or can i hold on to my faith through the ordeal?
