Seven-time Tour de France cycling champion Lance Armstrong has long rejected the idea that God has dominion over his life.
He has refused to accept that his Creator saved him from testicular cancer (If there was a God, Id still have two balls, he once sneered).
He has refused to credit the Almighty for his exceptional athletic prowess (One of the redeeming things about being an athlete is redefining whats humanly possible, he once declared.)
The Bible warns that God opposes the proud. And Armstrongs stunning fall from grace offers proof that Gods Word does not return void.
The disgraced cyclist has lost almost everything that mattered to him.
This past summer, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency charged him with having used performance enhancing drugs, stripped him of all his cycling titles and banned him from every competing again.
Yesterday, Nike announced that it was severing its ties with Armstrong, going so far as to remove his name from its corporate fitness center (just as it removed the name of the late Joe Paterno from its corporate daycare center).
That prompted other Armstrong sponsors to follow suit, including Trek (which made Armstrongs bicycles), Anheuser-Busch, 24 Hour Fitness, FRS and Honey Stinger to follow suit.
Then, perhaps, the biggest ignominy of all, the scandalized cyclist was forced to step down from his own Livestrong Foundation.
Were Armstrong a man of faith, now would be the time for him to drop down on his knees and humble himself before God; to ask the Lord to have mercy upon him, according to His loving kindness, and to blot out his transgressions.
But Armstrong believes he is master of his own fate. He doesnt believe he is accountable to God.
If, wrote Armstrong, in his 2000 autobiography, there was indeed a God at the end of my days, I hoped he didnt say, But you were never a Christian, so youre going the other way from heaven. If so, I was going to reply, You know what? Youre right. Fine.
Thats the kind of pridefulness God opposes.
It led to Armstrongs fall from grace. And, unless he gets right with the Almighty, it will lead to his eternal damnation.
“He has refused to accept that his Creator saved him from testicular cancer (If there was a God, Id still have two balls, he once sneered). “
If God saved him from testicular cancer then God also gave him testicular cancer.
If every team was doping, which it appears they were - and even coordinated among teams - Lance was still the champion. Non-issue.
Since they are taking away his titles, who do they give them to since 2nd, 3rd and 4th were doping too?
God told you this? Or are you authorized to speak for Him?
It led to Armstrongs fall from grace.
You know that how exactly? Has God spoken to you about it?
You seem to have too little information on the nature of God to be making such statements.
I wonder why he never sneered...’if there was a God, I wouldn’t have cancer’...?
It's all right there in your breakfast toast, HG.
Lance ain't giving up!
The old saying “Be nice to those you meet on your way up because you will meet them again on the way down” undoubtedly applies here. As does the shorter saying “Karma can be a real bitch”.
He’s worth about $100 million. I’m sure he’ll get over this.
It’s looking like the titles aren’t going to be awarded to anyone after Armstrong loses the titles.
I agree with that, both stripping Armstrong of the wins and leaving the titles for those years vacant.
BS, maybe his doping gave him ball cancer. God did allow him to survive it though.
He is the master of his own fate. Everything bad that’s happening to him is because of things he did. These are direct consequences. Of course on the other side of it nobody is taking the money, he’s rich, he’s staying that way, so even his consequences aren’t that big.
“If God saved him from testicular cancer then God also gave him testicular cancer.”
Astute observation - I’d say ALLOWED him to get testicular cancer, since it was mankind that invited sin, death and pain in to the world.
But when all is said and done, God is sovereign. Not a sparrow falls unless to the ground without His will. Note, it is God’s will that the sparrow falls.
So, we’d all best be on God’s good side, seeking to please him, and accepting His will when it is time for us to go through a trial or even die, rather than ranting like Plankton on Sponge Bob.
So are you going to blame God for Lance doping? That doping is most likely what caused his balls to rot. But God did allow him to survive.
He will not take with him, one thin dime of that 100 mil when his flesh returns to dirt. He will return to the Maker butt naked.
Gunner, apparently you don’t see the spiritual side of it
That won't do him much good at the White Throne of Judgement.
Yeah, well I’m sure Lance has a pair and will prevail.
Oh wait....
