Russia’s War on Halloween

MOSCOW – While many in the U.S. bemoan what they see as a war on Christmas, in Russia a very different holiday is under attack: Halloween. Here some don’t see it as the holiday of tricks and treats, but as a sinister celebration that endangers children.

The latest salvo came from a group of Russian Orthodox Church leaders and a group of Cossacks, who are spearheading an effort to cancel Halloween celebrations in the region of Stavropol Krai, in southern Russia. A nearby region, Krasnodar Krai, recently prohibited celebrating the holiday in schools.

But why are the church and the Cossacks, the feared horseback defenders of the tsars, spooked by Halloween?

“I consider it absolutely unacceptable for certain reasons. Halloween celebrations have been imposed on us for 20 years, and we are perfectly aware of how it all looks: revelry, baboonish behavior and scoffing at death, and thus at the memory of our deceased loved ones, whom all of us certainly have” said Andrei Sakhno, a youth leader at the local diocese in Stavropol Krai, according to RIA Novosti.

When I was a kid, halloween was a day we had to worry about vandalism. I remember we just moved in to our new house right after Halloween and the front lawn was covered with toilet paper. It was all about the tricks, not the treats.

Andrei and his comrades need to lighten up. Halloween is harmless fun.

I’m in total agreement. I’ve lived across the road from a quiet country cemetery for almost 20 years and every year it gets worse.

Just tonight we had three car loads of young adults dressed as witches taking pictures of themselves sitting around on tombstones.

Then there are the “paranormal investigators” and their blue lights and paranormal activity detectors. Sheesh. I’ve threatened for a long time to sit out there some night and either hand out Bibles or sell admission tickets and refreshments, but my husband won’t let me.

It’s Obama’s favorite holiday. Everyone demands their free phone otherwise you will get a ‘trick.’

Just another fun part of being a kid ruined by loons on both sides.

Unhealthy fascination with the occult is growing, it seems to me.

"Halloween is harmless fun."

Celebrating evil is harmless fun? Begging for candy, destroying property, allowing the evil weirdos their "time of day", giving the sluts a free pass to "let it all hang out" is harmless fun?

Hmmmm, your name is Joseph, so I can safely assume you are a man. Perhaps halloween is more about the sluts parading in their slutty costumes you consider harmless fun?

On one hand, they should lighten up and have a little fun. On the other hand, after all that country went through, and that Christianity has come back after decades of oppression, i don’t blame them.

They were at a national starting place very recently. If you were in their place, imagine looking over at the USA with almost pagan style death worship on TV, pop culture etc. Then look at how homosexuality is advanced and promoted everywhere. Then look at democrats at their convention screaming their rejection of God. Observe the way abortion is almost a celebrated sacrement on the left.
There are women who wear “i had an abortion” T shirts.

If you were them, you would never say, “hey, we should do things exactly the way they did.”

Their heart is in the right place. Giving up a few Snickers bars isn’t so awful.

At the heart of their resurgent nationalism is their looking at US and Europe, and seeing something they want to carefully avoid becoming.

The Gestapo doesn’t like ANYTHING that interferes with indoctrination. Halloween is imagination. They can’t have that! Some of our schools HERE are stopping Halloween celebrations. Halloween is a HUGE industry in America. Lots of candy and goodie sales.

The Russians, by and large, are a crazy lot. They neither have the equivalent, nor the appreciation and the understanding of the necessity for something like the First Amendment. As a result, they are destined to embrace dictatorships for the foreseeable future.

The fools want to protest this, but won’t dare utter a word against the mafia-run political morass which is the government of Russia - because they back these idiots in return.

“Halloween is a HUGE industry in America.”

Yeah, especially for the house insurance companies in Detroit.
