Reflections on Newtown Shooting

Three thoughts come to my mind, and if they can help you then please receive them as some contribution to your effort to deal with the unfolding trauma. First, we have to remember that God bears us up right now in the midst of it all. Psalm 68:19 declares, “Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation.” In those simple words I am reminded that our Lord can carry us even today. He is with us and has not forgotten us. Moreover, he alone is our hope.

Secondly, it helps me to remember there is hope beyond the grave. Psalm 23:4 points out that even in Death’s valley, God is with us; we need not fear. Furthermore, as the psalmist points out in Psalm 23:6, he shall dwell with the Lord forever. This, of course, is the great promise for all of us who believe in Christ.

Lastly, I have to cling to the fact that God will deal with the injustices and terrors of our world. Romans 12:19 reminds us that vengeance belongs to the Lord; he will right all wrongs and judge those who inflict pain.

Too much hype about the mayan 2012 prediction, the never ending nonstop “Fiscal Cliff” off the MSM, its a New Moon and last but not least Obama stole the election and nobody cares.

One could say none of this applied to the shooter but a single issue is on everyone’s mind and some people do indeed see all these issues together and just say to themselves, the hell with it all, the hell with everything and since they cannot target those that are causing the problem they look for targets of opportunity.

Totally agree. Look at the mass shootings this year, namely the movie theater in July and the mall in Oregon this week. Young, early 20s, white male, seemingly ‘educated’ and having some type of family connection (not homeless/no one knew who they were).

I am in my 30s and see a huge difference between people my age and those in their early 20s. The Internet is probably the biggest change...bizarre, troubled, even criminal, behavior finds a home there. There seems to be a disconnect between human interaction and fantasy world.

If schools can worry about whether or not a third grade boy who likes pink goes home with a black eye, they can sure as Hell be worry about whether or not all the children go home alive.

People are forced by law to have their kids in schools where those responsible should be responsible rather than fatalistic. When they talk about wanting to make sure some oddball kid isn't bullied, they talk being "proactive". When it comes to considering how to defend the lives of the children they are responsible for, though, everyone becomes fatalistic. Schools that are responsible for children who are there in compliance with the law should at least not be very clearly the easiest target for anyone who goes insane and wants to murder a crowd.

Your average nutcase might still target children on a playground as has been done or otherwise target a specific school for a reason. More often than not, though, these things are done by those are not in the same league as dedicated killers intent on doing whatever they have to in order to take out a specific target and who may even relish being confronted.

Even Columbine where there was advance planning would have required a much greater degree of dedication had the perps known they would be confronted by multiple armed adults who had been trained to protect rather than maybe trained how to evacuate.

There will always be people in groups in ways that make them an easy target but that in no way excuses the places where people are forced to leave their children being the easiest targets because those who are responsible forgo any means to resist an armed assailant.

To me, this sort of thing is direct result of a debauching of the culture advocated by the very persons who will now seek to disarm us, to protect us from the very thing that they have created.

The answer to all of this is not a police state. The added security you point to in you post is just another step in the advancement of that. Adams and Jefferson were right. A free society is based in morality. Something that has been driven to the margins in the present day.

Think back to when you were in kindergarten, while for myself it was a half century ago, I do recall the openness of the school building in as much as the doors were unlocked
and unmonitored during the school day.

Fast forward 50 years and we need to have armed guards posted in our schools?

What has become of the morality of our nation?

Why is there this need for those who are unhappy to kill 20-30 people and then kill themselves? If you’re a miserable POS and you want to kill yourself, then you can have right at it. Why do you need to take others with you?

It goes back to the narcissistic culture that has been created by the leftards and the communists in the democRAT party. They have created a pressure cooker society where the weakest amongst us lash out to destroy others in their despair of their inability to navigate the world.

I fear that the communists have won. I don’t think that what once was is recoverable.

"i>"The added security you point to in you post is just another step in the advancement of that. "

What added security???

Either the people who are put in charge of and made responsible for the children the law requires we turn over to them accept that responsibility and are willing to defend those children, or they're not.

I don't propose adding a single individual who isn't already there, in place, and in theory responsible for our children when in reality they're not permitted to defend either the lives of the children or their own lives.

How is telling the Principal and others that if he/she isn't willing to arm themselves to defend the lives of students by shooting down an armed assailant in the school that they're not qualified to be responsible for the children adding anything to State power?

Do you really think the teachers in those one room school houses didn't have a Peacemaker in their desk drawer or a Winchester in a rack above the blackboard? How does returning to that same attitude do anything like what you're hung up on?

People being permitted to defend themselves and those who they're responsible for is returning power to individuals, not turning anything over to the increased government control.

The schools of Education would never allow for what you are suggesting. They would never add a course in firearms training to their curriculum either for teacher training or graduate administrators.

Without question these schools are the intellectual slums of every university. And with the Dewey/Marcuse mindset of egalitarian education what you are suggesting would never be allowed by the marxists running them.

I’m not disagreeing, with your assertion but my wife is a school principal and she has enough trouble with me owning guns and she refuses to even touch them.

Therein lies the only real problem with your assertion. I agree with you that this should be the responsibility of those whom we entrust our children, but there are not exactly a whole lot of men who work in these places. Lest of all the types who hunt/fish and are competent with a firearm.

The schools of education simply put into place coursework that would offend you and I. We would so adamantly disagree with the course content that there is no way that you can get a passing grade.

How could we mandate that a shivering pile of humanity provide the protection from a madman?

Like I poited out, 50 years ago the there were very few outside doors on the school building that were locked during school hours and there was no-one monitoring those doors.

The problem is the culture that the left has created and now seeks to remedy. Civility goes hand in hand with morality, and the later has been driven out of our society.

There is no morality anymore. there is no golden rule of doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. There is only; if it feels, good do it.

So if it feels good to shoot up a school and kill kindergarteners then that’s what happens.
