Website Helps Dutch Catholics "De-Baptize" Over Gay Marriage

(Reuters) - Thousands of Dutch Catholics are researching how they can leave the church in protest at its opposition to gay marriage, according to the creator of a website aimed at helping them find the information.

Tom Roes, whose website allows people to download the documents needed to leave the church, said traffic on ontdopen.nl - "de-baptise.nl" - had soared from about 10 visits a day to more than 10,000 after Pope Benedict's latest denunciation of gay marriage this month.

"Of course it's not possible to be 'de-baptized' because a baptism is an event, but this way people can unsubscribe or de-register themselves as Catholics," Roes told Reuters.

He said he did not know how many visitors to the site actually go ahead and leave the church.

About 28 percent of the population in the Netherlands is Catholic and 18 percent is Protestant, while a much larger proportion - roughly 44 percent - is not religious, according to official statistics.

The country is famous for its liberal attitudes, for example to drugs and prostitution, and in April 2001 it was the first in the world to legalize same-sex marriages.

Thanks. I’m Presbyterian(conservative, Bible believing PCA variety) and my church accepts all triune baptisms done by immersion, sprinkling or pouring in the name of the Triune God whether they were done by Protestant, Catholic or Orthodox clergymen.

The Lutheran church my grandparents belong to is far from Liberal. It’s the LCMS and abortion and homosexuality are not accepted.

I’m disgusted with the Lib attitudes of the synagogue I’ve been going to. Noahides can pray in a synagogue but certain prayers are omitted.

When I went to a Passover service a few years ago they put an orange on the seder plate,as a symbol of acceptance of the queers. Then another year there was a Miriam’s seder, which was a celebration of all things Liberal. God was referred to as a female. Apparently it is sexist to refer to Him as a male which never bothered me at all. Jeez,Louise. The prayers were something like “Blessed are you oh,Lord our God,Queen of the universe.” I was disgusted and shocked.

Some of the congregants are atheists which doesn’t surprise me at all.

I think you need to find a new synagogue or church.

I won’t go to church.I might check out another synagogue. The only problem is that the Orthodox congregations are an hour away.

Noahides, like Jews, will not and cannot pray in a church.

the thing is because Catholic say "you hold to the truth or leave, you can't go forming Catholic church - the new h version" which is why this "de-baptism" is happening

But the same enemy is attacking Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants and others -- the "free sex for all" group

once you are baptised as deemed by Christ in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, you have the mark of God. That can’t be undone. Doesn’t matter if a priest, pastor, layman even a non-religious person does it.

What’s the matter?

They can’t just stop going to church like others have done before?

This smacks more of drama-queen-ism than of simple rejection of a particular religion. But then it is the “gay” thing, isn’t it?

Baptism is a seal on the soul. but the person is free to reject the grace of God. In Hell is burns like that branding iron you speak of. For those who accept his grace, it is cool waters over a feverished brow.

I was looking up the demographics of the Netherlands. It is horrible -- 51% are non-believers!

It is no longer a Christian country. This one stronghold of Calvinism now has only 15% "Protestants" and 24% Catholics -- and those are just those who say they are members, the real numbers of both are less. The Evangelical Church of the Netherlands embraces religious pluralism officially.

What happened to the Dutch?
