Here Is A Powerful Prayer Exercise Even For Those Who Do Not Pray Or Are Non-Believers

Anyone on a faith walk will eventually ask the question, “How do I pray?”

Except for the Lord’s Prayer that Jesus taught his disciples, there is no easy answer, for prayer is a very personal and personalized pursuit.

And, as with all pursuits, practice is the key to success and prayer is no different.

You will soon discover the more you pray, the more you will find answers to difficult questions, along with mental or physical healing from various maladies, protection for you or your loved ones and comfort from any number of storms that happen to be raging in your life.

Whatever the current state of your prayer life, even if you do not have one, or practice no faith at all, here is a powerful “prayer exercise” that you should find very beneficial.

Back in 1990 I first experienced this exercise in a group while attending a prayer seminar at my church. During the course of the exercise, the answer to a personal spiritual question that had been plaguing me for 15 years was instantly revealed.

Thus, I immediately became a huge believer in this prayer exercise and since have shared it with many others over the years. You too might find some answers but only if you are truly honest and unafraid to ask or face the most difficult questions or issues in your past or present circumstances.

So without further ado, here is the exercise.

Jesus is visiting your neighborhood. He is going house to house and will be at your door in five minutes...

I was getting ready to have a serious discussion with you about the power of unbelievers prayers and the dangers of social gospel. And then I read the article.

Hmm..Very powerful and I hope that people take a few mins to think about what has been written here.

I am so glad I read the first reply before I posted. Prayer is a heart to heart conversation with the creator of this universe. The King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Thanks for your post.

Now, we elect them to public offices.

I do pray for you and the missus.

This exercise is interesting. I can imagine Christ at the door, but not sitting down and talking to Him; only prostrating myself in front of Him and begging Him to forgive me for my sins and show me His will. Giving him a tour of the house? Presumably He already knows everything. No, I’d just be on my face.

God is alive and is with us now...it is natural to talk with him and adore him through prayer. Of course he helps us when we need...he is a loving God.

May God open your heart and fill your soul with His loving Grace, Amen.

At its basic core, prayer is hypocrisy.

God is omniscient, and therefore knows all your thoughts.

The believer believes in God, and therefore acknowledges God’s omniscience.

Then where does prayer fit in? Anyone who realises the irrefutable logic of the above will find prayer meaningless and futile, for indulging in it is an indirect way of saying you do not accept God is omniscient.

There is no purpose in pretending conversation with the deity when you ought to believe that the deity knows everything about you, including your thoughts. Unless, you don’t believe so, and your God is anthropomorphic - an idol.

2DV - Thank you for posting this imaginative exercise. I love doing things like this, and have received many blessings, insights, and understandings from such. I pray for you.

BigCin - You’ll like this. I was reading Psalm 1:2 > But his delight [is] in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night...and it had a note by the word ‘meditate’. When I looked it up, it said; “Ponder by talking to oneself”. I laughed - see, now I have ‘permission’ to talk to myself. :))

James - in a way, you’re right.
Romans 8:26, 27
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what [is] the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to [the will of] God.

So, like ott, for me - praying is in Jesus’ presence, and I’m ‘on my face’ mentally & sometimes literally...just listening, still. Being transparent to Him, asking for HIS will to be done, and asking for the strength to follow & obey. (I fail constantly).

Coming from Jesus, I consider the Lord’s Prayer to be a perfect prayer. It starts by acknowledging the Father, as all the Father of us all and acknowledges that He resides in Heaven - where we hope to go. it acknowledges His holiness and states a desire to have His Will occur. It then asks for the necessities as he has promised to provide on a daily basis vs. amassing unnecessary riches. It acknowledges our duty to forgive others as we wish to be forgiven. It finally asks Him to keep us from the temptations of the Evil One and then returns for a final acknowledgement of His eternal glory. It bookends His Holiness and Glory with our need for His assistance/love/protection - can’t get better than that except maybe to come up with some pretty sounding poetry and call it a prayer.
