Whereas, by definition, the power of prayer *is* that of self-denial, as witnessed by Gethsemane. "Yet not what I will, but what Thou wilt." This is the very opposite of the "will to power" which countenances or demands abominations such as digging up the dead: and it is opposite in its effects as well, for Gethsemane did not result in an exhumation, but in Resurrection. And the Stone itself was rolled away.

Thanks, I enjoyed that. I think the simile of athletic competition is quite useful: each person in his relationship with God starts with himself, the totality of his own unique person, and then adds his effort and discipline to all the grace God provides.
