February 9, 2013. (Romereports.com) Benedict XVI will announce on Monday the date for the canonization of over 800 new saints for the Catholic Church, during a consistory with cardinals. Among the soon to be saints are Mother Laura, the first Colombian saint, and Mother Lupita, the second female Mexican saint.
Mother Lupita co-founded the religious congregation of the Handmaids of Saint Margaret Mary and of the Poor in Jalisco, Mexico. Mother Laura Montoya founded the Missionaries of St. Mary Immaculate and St. Catherine of Siena to help local indigenous people.
Obama didn’t make the list. I’m shocked!

He was canonized a few years ago by the University of Our Lady in South Bend, Indiana. No need for the pope to ratify their work. What does he know about this stuff anyway???
Isn't this getting to be a little like ancient Rome, or modern day, poly-godded India ?
When I was a kid, there was St Christopher (and I don't know how he got to be) the patron saint of the highway, or travelers ...
and
St Jude, the patron saint of hopeless cases.
THAT'S the one my entire family prayed and payed to for me .
A saint is a citizen of heaven. Are you saying that fewer people should be acknowledged as saints? Who, if anyone, do you think should be derecognized?

Did you not read the article? 800+ of them were massacred by the Muslims. This is great news.
Traditionally, The Catholic church canonizes people after long investigation, that have been proven to have performed miricles.
Having died violently at the hands of a Satanic cult was an entry for Fox's book of martys .. not canonization.
I have no problem with people that are dead being saints ... the Bible is FULL of 'em ... more intrigueing is the Bible refers to LIVING people as saints.
My comment (did YOU read it ?) was a reflection on my memory of being a catholic boy and who the saints were in my mnemory banks.
I prefaced my comment to imply no animosity nor derision ... but I know you guys like to fight about it.

Well, she must have thought I was St. Anthony reborn....because she would sit in her chair and pray and tell me to .....look in the drawer....look on the top shelf etc, etc, etc....until the lost was found.
The truth of it...Mom lost it along time ago. (Sorry mom).
P.S. I believe St. Christopher was fired from sainthood.

Yes! There are many living saints! In canonizing certain "dead" as saints, the church offers up their lives as examples for the living. I expect this announcement will be met with outrage by the Muslim community. To cite an example, among the candidates for future sainthood are the Three Massabki Brothers.
Three devout Maronite brothers, Francis, Abdel Mohti and Rafael Massabki, lived in Damascus, Syria during the nineteenth century. Born of a family known for its piety, nobility and generosity, the Massabki brothers lived a life impregnated with a deep Maronite faith and love of God. In 1860, fear roamed the streets of Damascus as the men of Ahmed Pasha, the ruler of Syria, marked out crosses and falsely accused the “children of the Christians” with the act. As Muslims grew distasteful, they demanded their ruler to restore public peace and put an end to the chaos. Pasha gave orders to spread fire in Christian communities and imprison Christian men. As fire spread, his men rampaged between houses, massacring Christians and stealing their goods.
Fearing the furor and ferocity of the massacres, the three Massabki brothers headed to the Franciscan convent to take refuge. As Francis kneeled before the statue of the Sorrowful Mother and prayed, Pasha’s men infiltrated the scene and recognized him alone in the church. They advanced towards him and said, “We have come to save you, your brothers and your family on the condition that you deny your faith and convert to Islam.” Francis responded saying, “I do not fear those who can kill the body and no one can make me deny my Christian faith. I am a Maronite Christian and on the faith of Christ, I will die.” Francis began reciting a prayer and at that moment, they massacred him with their swords and hatchets.
Abdel Mohti ran to take refuge near his brother, Raphael, but was seized at the church’s door and asked to deny his faith as well. He proclaimed, “I am a Christian. Kill me, I am ready.” He was immediately martyred the same way as his brother, Francis. Preferring death over denying their faith in Christ, the three Massabki brothers were crowned martyrs and beatified October 7, 1926 by Pope Pius XI. Their feast day is celebrated on July 10.
When Jewish convert, Edit Stein, was proclaimed a saint, there was an uproar in the Jewish community. We expect the Muslims to have a similar reaction should the Three Massabki Brothers be canonized.
Today’s Catholics can look to the saints as role models as they stand up for religious freedom.
The saints are presented to believers as role models whose lives are worthy to be imitated.

a Saint is a saved believer, all Christians are saints. This is just a sect pretending it still has rule over man.
