So you don’t take him at his word, that he can no longer fulfill the Papacy?

I hope the next pope is as good.

Bless you Pope Benedict. You will be missed.

It’s from Fr. Zuhlsdorf’s blog. Maybe you could go ask him.

But this is a widespread lament among Catholics who wish he had stayed the course.

He should then take the name Benedict XVII. That would turn Papal prophecies on their heads.

Quite frankly doc, I believe he has stayed the course. The Church needs a vigorous person as Pope -- and while Pope Benedict is exceptionally vigorous mentally for an 80 year old (wish that we all are as strong at that age), he must have felt that physically the toll was too much and he saved the Church of a sudden look around.

I too wish we had had Pope Benedict for longer, but he has done a great deal in the past 8 years and by his writings and prayers he will truly stay the course as a teacher
