Its first signatories were prestigious theologians such as Paul Knitter, Mgr. Calsaldáliga, Hans Küng, Leonardo Boff, Peter Phan and Paul Collins.

The Vatican condemned Hans Kung and Küng, has lost his mandate to teach as a Catholic theologian. Was Theologian Hans Küng Ever Excommunicated?

The classic joke:

Somebody asked Professor Kung if he wanted to be pope.

"Oh, no, no" he replied.

And why?

"Because then I would no longer be infallible."

And we hear from the other side. I don’t pretend to understand all the things spoken of in the article, but gleaned enough to realize that this faction is opposed to what JPII and Benedict XVI represented.

The good news is that they are outnumbered.

It’s so touching when non-Catholics think they have a right to run the Catholic Church.

“The papacy’s role needs to be clearly redefined in line with Christ’s intentions. As supreme pastor, unifying figure and the main witness of the faith, the Pope’s contribution to the good of the universal Church is key, theologians write. But his authority should never obscure, diminish or suppress the authentic authority Christ gave directly to all the people of God.”

The other three have also been censured in one way or another.

This is nothing but pure agit-prop. It’s a waste of bandwidth.

“The various presbyteral and pastoral councils set up during the Council should involve faithful more directly in terms of decisions regarding the formulation of doctrine...”

In what regard? Does Kung deny the Petrine primacy?

A pretty good rule in all matters is to do the opposite of what Hans Kung wants.

I’m not Catholic, but find it fairly amusing that individuals who otherwise mock or denigrate the church suddenly seem to feel that their opinion should be considered - or wanted.

I am Catholic and that's exactly what I feel only with more passion. I want to say they have a h*ll of a nerve.

Boff is at least as much of a mischief maker as Kung, especially in Latin America, where he was a major charter member of the Liberation Theology movement.

But his authority should never obscure, diminish or suppress the authentic authority Christ gave directly to all the people of God.”

"Write your own religion. There is no objective Truth: each individual can decide what is 'true' for himself in accordance with his own will."

Or, as Satan put it, "You will not die ... you will be as God, knowing good and evil."

“bishops are vicars of Christ, not the Pope’s vicars. They have direct responsibility for the people and the dioceses and a shared responsibility along with other bishops and the Pope for the universal community of the Catholic faith.” The bishops’ central synod, the documents reads, “should play a more decisive role in planning and guiding the conservation and growth of faith in our complex world.”

The Bishops are bound to teach and pass on the faith of the Church, UNCHANGED. It is not up to the Bishops to change teachings based on what the people might want at any point in time.

Of course with theologians such as Hans Kung, and Leonardo Boff, what can you expect? They decided a long time ago that they didn't want to teach the Faith, unchanged, and they have had their facilities to teach removed.

That such a letter can exist suggests what dangers face us. Kueng is a madman, a heretic, but he speaks for a sizeable portion of the Church .
