Pope Benedict XVI says goodbye — to his red shoes
The Washington Times ^ | 02/26/2013 | Cheryl K. Chumley

Retiring Pope Benedict XVI gets to keep a couple titles — “Your Holiness Benedict XVI” and “emeritus pope” — and his white cassock. But he’s turning in his signature red shoes and going brown.

Vatican spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi said the pope decided on his future wear — which has been widely discussed since he announced his retirement — in consultation with Vatican officials, according to The Associated Press.

Replacing the red shoes will be the hand-crafted brown loafers given him during a 2012 visit to Mexico, the AP states.

Wasn’t the Nazarite (sp?) order of Old Testament Israel designed to express total separation to God? The adherent was not to drink any wine, not even the fruit of the grapevine, and was not to shave or cut his hair. He was to remain ceremonially clean - no exceptions.

I think this might be why Jesus is depicted (I cringe at any depiction of Jesus because they are all bound to be idolatrous notions invented by the unclean mind of the depictor) as having long hair. Surely, he was separated to God from the womb. But maybe that was just an Old Covenant device and the New brought a new “style.”

You're talking about the Guest who provided 180 gallons of wine for the family friend's wedding feast, right?

The One who said that unlike Cousin John the Baptist (who was criticized for not eating, drinking, or consorting with sinners), He (Jesus) was criticized for eating AND drinking AND consorting with sinners.

Wine-bibber!

Jesus is so -- just --- wow. Both fulfilled the Law and confounded all expectations.

So, Jesus contributed to drunkenness?

There’s nothing in the Wedding Feast text (John 2:1-10) about “drunkenness”. The text does specify “six stone water jugs,” each holding “20-30 gallons”. That would be 120 - 180 gallons of wine.

Were any of your clothes prescribed by scripture either? Or the suits of r telepastor? Or the high hair of the pastoress?

So you're saying Jesus didn't convert water to wine? And didn't share wine at the last supper?

Wow, lovely revisionism...puts your other comments in perspective

It's very strange how we have ignorant folks who've never heard of this guy

And who've never read history or the Bible -- it's very strange how they then comment on what they have no idea about...
