Prayer for Pope Benedict XVI

O God, true shepherd of all the faithful,
look with kindness on your servant Pope Benedict XVI,
whom you set as head and shepherd of  Your Church.

We give you thanks for your grace at work in him
as he had led us by word and example:
in his teaching, in his prayer and in his great love.

Grant him your strength in frailty, comfort in sorrow,
and serenity amid the trials of this world;
and guide your Church, built on the rock of Peter,
with the power of your Spirit as we continue on the path that leads to you.
Through Christ our Lord.

Amen

Psalm 91

1 You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,

2 will say to the LORD, "My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust."

3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence;

4 he will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.

5 You will not fear the terror of the night, or the arrow that flies by day,

6 or the pestilence that stalks in darkness, or the destruction that wastes at noonday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.

8 You will only look with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 Because you have made the LORD your refuge, the Most High your dwelling place,

10 no evil shall befall you, no scourge come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.

12 On their hands they will bear you up, so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.

13 You will tread on the lion and the adder, the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot.

14 Those who love me, I will deliver; I will protect those who know my name.

15 When they call to me, I will answer them; I will be with them in trouble, I will rescue them and honor them.

16 With long life I will satisfy them, and show them my salvation. (NRSV)

As a Jew who speaks Italian and a little latin, when I see “SEDE VACANTE” it occurs to me to remind my FRiends that though His officers may come and go, the Lord is never absent from any place.

~ PRAYER ~

St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle
Be our protection against the wickedness
and snares of the devil;
May God rebuke him, we  humbly pray,
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
 by the power of God,
Cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls.
 Amen

Heavenly Father, We, the People of God, gathered in solidarity as did the disciples in the Upper Room, pray for the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the cardinals who will be in conclave for the election of the next Vicar of our Lord Jesus Christ.

May the hearts of our cardinals be open to the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, beyond any human judgment, to elect the candidate most pleasing to You, Heavenly Father, and who will guide the Church at this momentous time in history at the beginning of the Third Millennium.

We invoke our Mother Mary, united in prayer with the disciples in the Upper Room, to intercede for our cardinals to select the next Holy Father in docility to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, her divine Spouse. Holy Mary, Mother of God and of the Church, we entrust this conclave to your maternal and Immaculate Heart, and offer these prayers for your guidance and protection over the choosing of the next Vicar of your Son:

1 Our Father
1 Hail Mary
1 Glory Be

Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us!

Prayer to the Holy Spirit of St. Augustine:

Breathe in me, O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy.
Act in me, O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy.
Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy.
Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy.
Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy.
Amen

PRAYER FOR ALL DEGREES OF MEN IN THE CHURCH

Almighty and everlasting God, by Whose Spirit the whole body of the Church is sanctified and governed; mercifully hear our humble supplications for all degrees and orders therein; that, by the gift of Thy grace, all in their several stations may faithfully serve Thee. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

NOVENA FOR THE ELECTION OF A POPE

from March 1st to 9, 2013

Come, Holy Ghost, Creator, come.  From thy bright heavenly throne!  Come, take possession of our souls.  And make them all Thine Own!

Thou who art called the Paraclete, Best gift of God above, The Living Spring, The Living Fire, Sweet Unction, and True Love!

Thou who are sevenfold in Thy grace, Finger of God's right hand, His Promise, teaching little ones To speak and understand!

O guide our minds with thy blest light, With love our hearts inflame, And with thy strength, which ne'er decays, Confirm our mortal frame.

Far from us drive our hellish foe, True peace unto us bring, And through all perils guide us safe Beneath thy sacred wing.

Through Thee may we the Father know, Through Thee the Eternal Son, And Thee the Spirit of them both Thrice blessed Three in One.

Now to the Father, and the Son Who rose from death, be glory given, With Thee, O holy Comforter, Henceforth by all in earth and heaven. Amen.

Send forth Thy Spirit, and they shall be created:

And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.

The collect of the Missal for the election of a Pope

Lord, with suppliant humility, we entreat Thee, that in Thy boundless mercy Thou wouldst grant the most holy Roman Church a pontiff, who by his zeal for us, may be pleasing to Thee, and by his good government may ever be honoured by Thy people for the glory of Thy name. Through Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Most Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us who have recourse to Thee!

Saint Pius V,  pray for us.

Saint Pius X, pray for us.

I am not a catholic, but I pray for the election of a Pope who is wise, compassionate and will govern with principle according to the Word of God. We need strong fearless leaders at this time.
