So you’re saying nobody ever screwed around doing nothing on the internet to the detriment of real life stuff before Facebook? The only thing Facebook has done is become popular so now a significant percentage of the world’s screwing around on the internet time is done on Facebook, but if it never existed they’d still be screwing around somewhere.

It is vicious, it’s also not popular. 216 likes (they gained one since last night) and 87 talk abouts. That’s basically nobody. Ignore it, it’ll go away. Remember it’s a wild and crazy world out there, and with 1/9 of the world’s population on FB there’s going to be a significant number of them that are @$$#0!3$, even if it’s only 1/2 of 1% that still adds up to 5 million jerks. This guy only has 216 likes, he’s not even popular in jerk land, let it go.

I've said no such thing, but don't let that stop you from making up whatever suits you. LOL!

There was a “Criminal Minds” (TV episode) last week(?) that had the serial killer recreating fantasies that women had discussed on the internet (facebook, blogs, chat rooms, etc.)

Not sure that will keep my wife off of it though. However, I have told her, and she is, very careful about talking about upcoming events, vacations, etc.

Re: maiden name. Even on FR I have seen links to sites of fun things (like “what would your family crest look like) where they ask for your maiden name, street you grew up on, grade school name, name of your dog, etc. All password type things.

“I change my password often. My dog is REALLY confused.”

Then apparently you weren’t saying anything. Because I said it’s not FB, then you said “Oh really”, which would imply that you think it is, but now you’re saying that’s not what you said, so apparently you just like to hear the keys click.

That’s way too many assumptions on your part.

I’ve posted a link that recommends quitting Facebook and I questioned your claim that “none of it’s Facebook” by stating that I found the 3 year AGR score informative. Reading anything more than that in to my posts is pure conjecture.

No assumptions at all. You posted a link that recommended quitting facebook. I replied and said all that behavior is general web behavior that existed before facebook and even applies to FR. You edited to one convenient sentence and said “oh really” and posted another link which has no real information in it at all as it relates to this conversation. And I asked if you thought people didn’t screw around on the web before there was a facebook. A question you have yet to bother to answer. THAT is the entire conversation without one single assumption.

Now back to the question: do you think people didn’t screw around on the web to the detriment of real life needs before facebook? If not then you understand why that list of why people should quit facebook you posted is just stupid because it, just like I said, is not about facebook, it’s about the web.

Or to put it another way, go to this link:
http://www.webmd.com/anxiety-panic/guide/obsessive-compulsive-disorder
And notice how your entire list from your original link appears on this page. Obsession is obsession is obsession. Whether it’s obsession with FB, or FR, or the web in general, or snoopy posters. Blaming what people are obsessed with for the problems is going out of your way to misunderstand the situation.

You asked if I thought “people didn’t screw around on the web to the detriment of real life needs before facebook.”

I didn’t answer that question because I saw no reason to. The answer is obvious to even the poorest student of human history and human behavior. The answer is of course some people have always frittered away time to their own detriment and that of society in general. In the the past, the present and no doubt in the future as well.

It hardly needed to be said, but having said it, I hope it’s been helpful.

And thus shows that your link of 5 reason to quit FB is silly and pointless. Since the list consists of nothing but behavior that, as you say, even the poorest student of human history and behavior knows people have always done. Which was exactly my point when I said “none of it’s facebook”. So now that we both see that your reply should have been agreement, since you clearly agree, the conversation is done. See ya.
