Could someone please explain why Israel left the Temple Mount in Muslim hands when they took control of Jerusalem? From a prophetic viewpoint I get it. But what was the logic there?

In a statement at the Western Wall, Minister of Defense Moshe Dayan indicated Israel’s peaceful intent and pledged to preserve religious freedom for all faiths in Jerusalem:

To our Arab neighbors we extend, especially at this hour, the hand of peace. To members of the other religions, Christians and Muslims, I hereby promise faithfully that their full freedom and all their religious rights will be preserved. We did not come to Jerusalem to conquer the Holy Places of others.

Defense Minister Dayan immediately ceded internal administrative control of the Temple Mount compound to the Jordanian Waqf (Islamic trust) while overall security control of the area was maintained by Israel.

No good deed goes unpunished.

Given up in 1967 by Moshe Dyan.

Amongst many Christians at the time, the Temple is now in the body, so it is no longer sacred.

Amongst many Jews, until the temple is rebuilt, it isn’t sacred, so again, it didn’t matter.

There is a perspective amongst many Jews that they can live peacefully adjacent to Muslims and they have for many centuries. It’s just the lawless ones who cause all the problems and the adjacent authorities fail to exercise adequate law enforcement to maintain the peace.

I don’t share that perspective,....I think if antichristian people tell you they plan to kill you with heartfelt conviction, that is a strong indicator they mean what they say.
