Yawn, another Protestant vs Catholic debate bait.
To: Vermont Crank
Luther and other reformers translated the word of God into the vernacular and promoted its reading - over the opposition of the Catholic Church. Care to explain why putting the word of God into the hands of commoners is evil?

A wise old man told me not to knock the religion of another man. I will not have to answer for others just myself.

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brothers eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ... MATTHEW 7
To: Mr Rogers
The Catholic Church long preceded the Heresiarch into translating the Bible into the vernacular.
The evil of Luther was his insistence that every Mom, Mick, or Mary could decide for their own selves what the Bible meant and, thus, a new sect arises daily

Great time to pick an ancient ancient fight. Just as the dems are trying to push through homosexual marriage.
You are well handled.

But, of course, selling pardons and other interesting practices WAS the work of God. Go figure.

There was no German vernacular translation. There wasn’t a good English one, and the only attempt at translating the Bible into English was by Wycliffe & his friends.
The Catholic Church actively opposed allowing commoners access to scripture. It was against their policy for hundreds of years.
