Sounds like something from the Omen.

So, literally the last thing he did in his life was to offer the sacrifice at the altar.

That's a great grace.

Wow, how sad for the congregation and the baby, can you imagine the little thing will always be tied to the dead priest.

When you read the little bios of the Saints, or the daily Saints you notice than quite a few died in front of the altar.

Wow...what a wonderful way to go! RIP Father. I pray for a fraction of that Grace at my own time.

When your number is up and God calls you, it’s over.

He went doing what he evidently loved to do, I couldn’t think of a better way for a priest to go.

I certainly hope to “die in the saddle” - not in terror and screaming, like the passengers in my grandfathers car.

O God, Thou didst raise Thy servant, Timothy, to the sacred priesthood of Jesus Christ, according to the Order of Melchisedech, giving him the sublime power to offer the Eternal Sacrifice, to bring the Body and Blood of Thy Son Jesus Christ down upon the altar, and to absolve the sins of men in Thine own Holy Name.

We beseech Thee to reward his faithfulness and to forget his faults, admitting him speedily into Thy Holy Presence, there to enjoy forever the recompense of his labors.

This we ask through Jesus Christ Thy Son, our Lord. Amen.

When I was in high school, I played the organ at a church where a very shaky, but very kind, elderly priest would occasionally say Mass. I knew he was in bad shape. I had even visited him in the hospital. I was terrified that he would croak right there on the altar, when I was “on duty”. Then my parents pointed out that, if he did, he would be very happy to have given his last minutes to God and our congregation. He did not ultimately die at Mass, but I’m sure he will be in Heaven, happy to welcome any priest that does.

As a pastor myself, I can’t think of a better way to go. Well, during the singing of the Nunc Dimittis. . . .

I said a little prayer for him already. I saw this happen at mass one morning only I think he hadn't started the consecration yet. He stook like he was fighting something, then said he had to sit down for a little bit, got up again, and collapsed into the younger priests arms (lucky he was there). The young priest asked him if he'd eaten so it may have been a blood sugar problem.

It was really scary. Somebody started a rosary, maybe some medically trained parishioners went on the altar but the paramedics were very close and came quickly. They checked him and loaded him up and took him to the hospital.

The younger priest finished the mass. He was all right and resumed his duties in a few days. He did retire not too long after that to his cabin on the river and didn't live too long after that. God bless Father Denning's soul. He was a nice priest.

And may the priest who died saying mass find rest from his labors, light, and peace.
