Wednesdays St. Pius X graduation ceremony was at least one student short.
Transgender student Damian Garcia elected to stay home after the school told him he had to wear a white robe, for girls, instead of the black worn by male students. Garcia was born a girl named Brandi until he legally changed his name last year.
He said the school and archdiocese told him they would refer to the gender on his birth certificate, which is female, and require him to wear the white robe.
The archdiocese did not return a phone call seeking comment Wednesday. Although Garcia has received a lot of support from the community, ... in letters to the Journal and on the Journals Facebook page, people have praised the school for not giving in to the request.
The University of New Mexicos LGBTQ Resource Center will host a graduation ceremony for Garcia from 5 to 7 p.m. May 30 in a courtyard next to Scholes Hall on main campus.

I'm surprised she wasn't expelled then.
I’m curious as to whether she was in the girls’ gym class or the boys’
The thing that I don’t “get” aside from the whole transgendered thing itself.... is....
what’s the big deal ?? This graduate has chosen an alternate lifestyle.... knowing that it would be difficult and he wouldn’t be accepted by all and that there would be things he would be left out of.
He should have known and when they told him to wear the white robe..... either done it and graduated with his class....
or not done it and just accepted his diploma and moved on.
To do anything else is a “GET ATTENTION / LOOK AT ME” thing.
The medium is the message.
Deviancy is normal.
taboo is hate spreech.
It makes government the decider of normal and not normal.
This is a mentally ill person. They should not be rewarded for their sexual fetish deviancy.
Wrong. It does mean "queer." If you add another Q, that Q stands for "questioning."
There is also an A for "assexual" but I believe this might also be taken for "affirming." Another A for "allies," and an I for "intersexual."
I have a child at Virginia Commonwealth University, which keeps me informed of this sorta thing from their public affairs news office.
Note this announcement of VCU's Lavender Graduation ceremony, for "GLBTQIAA" students, sponsored by the state school's Department of Gender Sexuality and Womens Studies in the College of Humanities and Sciences, the Office of Diversity and Equity, the VCU and MCV Alumni Associations, Equality VCU, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA) and VCU ASPiRE.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
P.S. I note that VCU left out one of the Q's.
Wonder what letters “UNBELIEVABLE” would mean??
They have so far left out:
P pederast
P pedophile
A any age
Z zoophile
B beastophile
G goat friendly
C adult child with parent
So if I change my name to Ladder 3 does that mean I can demand to be treated as a Fire Engine.
Maybe if her parents had given her a real name, instead of “Brandi,” she’d have turned out normal.
