Rockford, Il – (ProLifeCorner.com) – 5-28-2013 – by Rockford Pro-Life Initiative - Cardinal Dolan Has Taught Us A Few Important Things In The Last Few Weeks. In the last few weeks Cardinal Dolan, through his spokesman Joseph Zwilling, has been doing a lot of teaching by word and deed.
His Eminence, Timothy Cardinal Dolan, has let the Church know pro-abortion New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is a Catholic in good standing. The world has also found out the Archdiocese of New York is paying for abortions and contraception for thousands of its employees. The Cardinals spokesman has rather heartlessly described the abortions and contraception the Archdiocese provides as “services” and excused the Archdiocese paying the bills for these “services” because they write the checks “under protest.” We have many lessons we can learn from these situations. A few of these lessons are listed below:
Cardinal Dolan has taught us you can be a Catholic (Gov. Cuomo) who promotes the unlimited and legal killing of babies by abortion, a Catholic who uses their political power to promote homosexual marriage and you’re still a Catholic in good standing.
Cardinal Dolan has taught us it’s OK to pay for abortions and contraception if you have an excuse.
Cardinal Dolan has set a standard for every Catholic in America to participate in things like the HHS mandate as long as you say you object to doing it.
Cardinal Dolan has taught us that if employees of a Catholic institution demand that the Catholic Church pay to murder their babies – the Church can comply.
Cardinal Dolan has taught every enemy of the Church that Catholics will go along quietly and participate in contraception and abortion programs as long as we say we object to it.
Cardinal Dolan has made null and void Cardinal George’s statement concerning secular forces attacking the Church and our need to be brave,
“I expected to die in bed, my successor will die in prison and his successor willdie a martyr in the public square.” No need now to stand-up for any principles. If Cardinal Dolan, the head of the Bishops Council can pay for abortions and tell us all we have to do is say we object to it, no Catholic need to take a risky stand to defend Christ or life. Cardinal Dolan has taught us we can go along with the culture of death as long as we object to doing it.
Cardinal Dolan has taught the Supreme Court whose members may have seen these situations in the news and will be hearing the HHS mandate cases that it is really no big deal for the head of the USCCB to allow his Archdiocese to pay for abortions and contraception as long as he can publicly say he objects to it.
Cardinal Dolan has taught politicians, voters, the abortion industry, and the media that the Catholic Church will pay for abortions and contraception as long as we can say we object to it.
Cardinal Dolan has taught us that the abuse scandal in the Catholic Church is far from over. While the tragedy of sexual abuse is being dealt with head on we now have been taught by Cardinal Dolan that a Catholic in good standing can support and make possible the murder of babies in the womb and an Archdiocese can even pay for these abortions. The murder of babies in the womb is the ultimate child abuse.

No Catholic will ever defend the indefensible. Most of the sex abuse that took place dates back to the 50's and earlier, long before JPII. I would ask you, however, what is being done in non-Catholic communities to stop predatory sex abuse of children? This is not limited to the Catholic Church.

The Catholic Church here, through its bishops in the USCCB, have implemented a program to prevent future occurrences. This includes all members of the community who come in contact with children, from janitors in the schools to volunteers who teach children at the parish level. We all are subjected to fingerprinting and a police background check. We are also required to attend classes on how to identify sexual predators and what actions to take. This is possible because of the centralized nature of the Catholic Church. It is also the reason why the media have been able to focus a laser beam on us. This is not possible in the non-Catholic denominations where there is no one to take responsibility.

Worse still, is the sex abuse of children in the education system.

And then there are the camp counselors, Big Brothers of America and the list goes on and on. There is plenty of guilt to go around.
Yeah, I tend to think Cardinal Burke is our modern day John Fisher.
And I’m going to put something else out there which won’t be popular by the “I love Pope Francis, don’t ever criticize him” crowd:
If this Pope sits back and does nothing to fix this mess in our Church then he is just to blame and he is just as suspect.

That's exactly how I feel in regards to the American bishops: no real leadership whatsoever.

I didn’t take that to mean he was defending bishops specifically, but the Church as a whole in response to a typical anti-Catholic remark about how the Church only cares about $$.
Is the St. Vincent de Paul Society that helps the poor active on the east coast.
Sometimes when people visit the poor here — maybe they just moved into an apartment and have no furniture at all — they always check the bathroom and leave one roll of toilet paper and one bar of soap for them.
Simple things that aren’t always thought of.
I would put our new Archbishop, Alexander Sample in the very conservative bracket.

There are others. Pope Benedict gave us a lot of Bishops with spines.
That certainly is a legitimate reading of his post, but even so, it begs the issue that I was raising, to wit: is that really what the role of the Catholic Church should be? The Catholic Church, today or at any time in history is a reflection of the theological philosophy of the bishops and the pope. When dogma was considered to be immutable, the independent viewpoint of a bishop was tempered by the universal belief in the dogmatic truths of the Church. As a result of New Theology (neo-modernism) and the structural changes embraced by the Second Vatican Council, the bishops enjoy enormously more independence than they’ve ever had in history. As a consequence, the influence of the pope (even if it differed which it probably doesn’t very much) has been minimized.
So my criticism of the post was that NY’er was defending and applauding precisely what Dolan and the other modernist bishops are all about. They have abandoned almost all pretense of teaching the faith, and have instead focused virtually all of their energies and attention on humanitarianism and so-called “social justice”. Catholics are abandoning the Church in droves, and those that remain, happily pick and choose as to what they want to believe. Tragically, the parish priests (who are trained and directed by the bishops) totally ignore what they must see. Unmarried couple living together is an accepted way of life in the Church today without a word being said from the pulpit. Those that do marry practice artificial birth control, and the notion that homosexual behavior is a mortal sin is never ever spoken. I could go on and on, but you get the picture.
The article re-published by NY’er is absolutely true; and I commend Ny’er for bringing to our attention. But when we properly recognize that Dolan (and most other bishops) are standing for some very anti-Catholic secular behavior that is dragging many of the faithful of His Church away from eternal salvation, we should not only have the clarity of thought to understand what belief system these bishops are following that would so wrongly influence their thinking, but we should also have the courage to stand up and condemn it
I grew up in New Orleans in the 50s and 60s when integration was starting. The Archbishop was Joseph Francis Rummel, the likes of whom they don’t make any more. When the local KKK / White Citizens Council leader, one Leander Perez, publicly opposed Rummel, Rummel excommunicated him publicly. When some of Perez’s goons beat up a priest in reprisal, Rummel put Plaquemines Parish (county) under “interdict”. The catholic churches locked their doors: no church weddings, no church funerals, no last rites, no baptisms. Perez came back on his knees before Rummel (actually did) to apologize. Rummel slapped him in the face and walked away. Perez caved but he died excommunicated. After 60 days all the goons who beat up the priest were in prison.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but please give specific examples if you do.
