An 85-year-old woman arrested outside Gillingham Mosque after allegedly hurling abuse at Muslims has been charged with a racially aggravated public order offence.
The pensioner, from Chatham, was handcuffed and taken away in a van by officers after trouble flared as worshippers left Friday prayers.
She was held by officers outside the Canterbury Street mosque as Kent Police vowed to take a hard line against reprisal attacks following the terrorist murder of a soldier.
The woman has now been released on police bail ahead of an appearance at Medway Magistrates' Court at a date to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, a 27-year-old man has also been charged with a public order offence and threats to commit criminal damage in a separate incident in Gillingham.
Police were called to a disturbance outside shop in the High Street at about 5pm on Thursday.

I feel bad for her. An 85 year old Englishwoman can certainly remember World War II, and the sacrifices her family and friends made to save England and it’s way of life. They certainly didn’t fight for what England has become. They repelled a totalitarian regime only for there own government to become a totalitarian regime that works against it’s native citizens.
And what happens to the other folks when they protest in front of a Catholic or Christian Church.
Oh, I forgot, they don’t protest — they burn down churchs, chop off heads, etc.

good example of why the ex-english men of the USA wrote the first amendment, to protect the right of free speech. In England where your a subject of the crown and not a free man you can be fined for hate speech. One of the few rights we still have here.

I have British cousins, and have always been fond of England, but there’s not much of the old way left.

Before the incident, many Muslims turning up for Friday prayers were pleased to see a police presence of three vehicles outside.
One young worshipper, who did not want to be named, said: "I'm part of this community and I feel safe anyway, but it is nice to see the police presence here today."
Thank Allah the police saved them from a heartsick octagenarian and the sharp side of her tongue. Take your head right off, that will.
Are those cops able to look at themselves in the mirror and not blush with shame?
Even if they followed orders, they should be ashamed of themselves. Perhaps the cops were muslims.
