Italian prosecutors reject claims of Roman clerical-pedophile ring

An Italian ex-priest who claimed that he could expose a ring of clerical pedophiles in Rome has been charged with slander, as prosecutors evidently suspect that he concocted the charges to embarrass the Church.

Patrizzio Poggi, who served 5 years of an 8-year sentence on sex-abuse charges, had told reporters that he could identify 20 priests who were involved in child prostitution. But prosecutors said he could not substantiate the claims, and charged that his reports were “motivated by personal feelings of resentment.” Poggi allegedly became enraged with Church officials who did not defend him against the criminal charges that led to his conviction and imprisonment.

Patrizio Poggi, the priest suspended a divinis who denounced a supposed "ring of homosexual and pedophile priests" in the Roman Curia (previous post here), also on Italian television network La7, is under arrest on an inquiry of false accusation of a crime (calunnia, lit. calumny) conducted by the Carabinieri.

The Vicariate of the City had already declared Poggi's declarations were false and slanderous.

In other news, Monsignor Nunzio Scarano, who had worked in the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See until his indictment weeks ago, was also arrested today in an ongoing investigation involving irregularities in the Institute for Religious Works (IOR).

Maybe there needs be a cessation of using the word "pedophile" when it's not accurate?

I can't ever seem to remember what the term is for those who focus more on young teenagers. Not that I know either way if it's much going on in Italy. It would be good news if it were not? sheesh...

Thanks. It becomes again (I say again for I am now reminded) why the wrong word or label keeps being applied. There are a few to chose from.

Pederast --- that might not be accurate for many of the 'improper contact' sort of thing which still goes beyond mere caressing someone's arm while making goo-goo eyes at 'em.

ephebophile then? The bulk of it seems be in that range. One wonders how the perpetrators got the way they did.
Some say that for many of them, they themselves had some contact and interaction with a sexual predator when they were young. Sort of like a vampire making vampires out of it's victims.

The worst to most minds is the infant/toddler molesters (regardless of who they are) which I don't *think* has been any sort of statistical presence in most church settings (though just one incident is enough to harm an entire family, as does all the rest, too)

As for the baby molesters...it kinda' makes a guy wanna kill 'em, doesn't it? Just the thought of it...

I agree. There are those on this site who will jump at anything that goes wrong in the Catholic Church as proof that their version of Christianity is the correct one...and it’s clear that they get pure joy out of it.

I think your definition of pederasty is not complete:

Pederasty is the term used to define the sexual relationship between an adolescent (pubescent or post pubescent) male and an older adult male.

So, it appears, pedophilia = pre-pubescent, ephebophilia = post-pubescent, and pederasty = pubescent and post-pubescent

Based on what I remember of the sex abuse cases, pederasty seems to be the most accurate description of what was going on there.

I am struggling with things about my Church right now, but I certainly take no joy in it.

Some of those who are in authority are always enticed into turning away from the right course whenever human beings organize to serve a higher purpose. I was a Marine grunt in VN and believe me I take no joy in looking at how that war ended, but I don’t let that rob me of my love of the Corps. Nor does it destroy my faith in the Marines who upheld and who are now upholding the honor of the Corps in spite the traitors in Washington who are in authority over the Corps.

I was just confirmed a little more than a year ago and I also hate to seeing these attacks on the body of Christ when I"m so overjoyed at being a part of His Church. But, the fact that Satan's attacks are so open and obvious is actually a cause for optimism so don’t let it rob you of the joy Christ gives us or undermine your faith.

Were Satan still succeeding on the critical spiritual plane where the real war takes place there'd be no reason for the open attacks we’re seeing. The decades of subtle attacks that lured Catholics away from the Truth and even into leaving the Church to join non-Catholic churches were the result of Satan's subtlety. If those who have stayed in His Church were still being misled by Satan there would be no reason for Satan to openly attack the Catholic Church. Satan doesn't openly attack the majority of Methodist, Episcopal, Lutheran, and non-SBC Baptist churches, because they don't resist Satan except in an extremely abstract sense. They go along to get along so Satan stays in the shadows.

Read Scripture and see what those who are part of the body of Christ can expect in this life. People who see enough of the Truth to decry the society we’re in as evil but who are functionally identical to that society when it comes to “minor details” like infanticide are examples of how Satan is never open and obvious when he is succeeding. Why would Satan rock the boat and attack churches full of people who are participants in the mass murder of infants? Let them curl up and sleep under their cozy “Christian liberty” comforter and enjoy the ride. Why would Satan bother with people who have each interpreted Scripture for themselves and created their own personal religion they prefer to being part of the body of Christ? Let them sleep in their Self Alone hammock and enjoy the ride.

Read history, read the lies propagandists like Luther admit to starting when they rebelled against His Church, read the slanders and lies in the media, and read the lies and insinuations common on the Internet. The fact is that Satan will always attack His body and that some weak humans who are a part or were a part of His body will always be corrupted by Satan.

Whatever people who attack the One, Holy, and Apostolic Church Jesus Christ Himself founded may think they’re doing what they’re really doing is praising Satan as being stronger and more powerful than Jesus Christ. They may hear or may have heard the Holy Spirit calling them to Christ but whatever the case may be, they've accepted a convenient spirit rather than pressing on to find the fullness of the Truth as a part of the body of Jesus Christ.

Scripture not only says His Church will be visible for all to see, it also says that His Church will constantly be under attack by Satan. Any honest person seeking the Truth and not already deceived into following Eve rather than Christ can see that it's the Catholic and Orthodox churches that have been under constant attack from Satan for the past nineteen plus centuries.

From the anti-Christ Pharisees non-Catholics agree with when they throw out part of the Scripture to the abortionists who claim Jesus Christ approves of abortion, those who attack the body of Christ have always been liars whether they knew they were telling lies or not. In fact, just like Scripture says will be the case, those who attack the Catholic Church have almost always thought they were serving their god by attacking The One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church Jesus Christ Himself founded.

Unfortunately, there are none so blind as those who will not see and the vast majority of people who call themselves Christians in this country refuse to see anything but their Self Alone.
