Pope Francis said on Saturday it pained him to see priests driving flashy cars, and told them to pick something more "humble".

As part of his drive to make the Catholic Church more austere and focus on the poor, Francis told young and trainee priests and nuns from around the world that having the latest smartphone or fashion accessory was not the route to happiness.

"It hurts me when I see a priest or a nun with the latest model car, you can't do this," he said.

"A car is necessary to do a lot of work, but please, choose a more humble one. If you like the fancy one, just think about how many children are dying of hunger in the world," he said.

Maybe one of those Jeep Wrangler pickups? With the old straight six engine that would run forever. No fancy rims, white letter tires or stripes, just a basic model with the narrow steel rims.

Jesus rode a donkey.

Most people walked in those days.

Only the wealthy owned, fed and rode a beast of burden.

BTW, the Pope never referred to Jesus in his message, or asked what car he would drive. The article’s title is the product of the depraved mind of some al Reuter’s editor.

Jesus would take the bus.

I know Jesus wouldn’t own a private jet, like several TV preachers do. If he had a car, it would probably be something like Columbo’s.

Well, if He was driving around the Vatican with His good friend "Francis", as a friendly gesture to his old friend "Peter", He might be driving a "Peterbilt" truck full of food and supplies for the poor.

(See a Peterbilt truck featured in this youtube song link (below), which was provided by someone else in a different thread here tonight -- thanks and hat-tip to FReeper "Fiji Hill" for this song link.)
