I have always thought that King Solomon was pro-life because of the heavenly wisdom he displayed in determining the mother of the baby who was alive. His determination was based on the one who chose life. Many argue the relevance of the scriptures for today, yet even the most secular scholars quote proverbs and recognize wisdom from ancient writings. I was pleased recently to note a beautiful theme of life woven through the book of Proverbs that is amazingly relevant to the battle we fight for life.
“My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent. If they say, “Come with us, let us lie in wait to shed blood;Let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause; Let us swallow them alive like Sheol, and whole, like those who go down to the Pit; We shall find all kinds of precious possessions, We shall fill our houses with spoil.” Proverbs 1:10-13
Solomon advises sternly against the ways of the abortion industry. They lurk secretly under names like “choice” and “Planned Parenthood” to kill innocent lives in exchange for “precious possessions.”
“For their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood. But they lie in wait for their own blood,They lurk secretly for their own lives. So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain; It takes away the life of its owners.” Proverbs 1:16, 18-19
Solomon describes the behavior of the abortion industry and those who support it. They haste to shed blood. Their feet run to evil. America recently witnessed Wendy Davis wearing a suit and running shoes, hastening to defend abortion. Abortion destroys the flesh and blood of the very mother laying on a cold table under the pretense that it is just tissue and her legally protected choice. When in reality, it even destroys the life of the mother if she survives the procedure that kills her own child.
Proverbs 1:28-31 “Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord, They would have none of my counsel and despised my every rebuke. Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled to the full with their own fancies.
Solomon even warns ones who hate knowledge. The abortion industry hates sonogram laws because the truth of the life in the womb destroys their evil plot to profit from killing the life she carries. Businesses who support Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers are painfully deceived. There is only one business that profits even temporarily from less people being alive- abortion. Even the abortion industry will die when there are no mothers alive to pay them to kill their children. It is almost as if king Solomon understood the futility of the evil abortion empire in our time.
Proverbs 1:32 For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them;

The very means that profit abortion businesses in the short term will destroy them eventually. Kermit Gosnell relied on hiring uneducated employees and even a child to comply with his evil business plan. Abortion providers across the nation rely on ignorance of employees and patrons to keep making money the way that they do. This practice will destroy them according to scripture. The complacency of abortion centers who refuse and file law suits so that they don’t have to comply with safety regulations slay their own business and display to the whole world how little they care about women’s health and how much they only care about money.
Yes I know the title says “King Saul” but I think she really meant to say “King Solomon”
The author must have wrote this at 2 am. Other wise it’s a good article.
There’s no reason to think King Saul wasn’t pro-life as well. He didn’t even worship foreign deities, like Solomon did.
Apart from murdering all those priests, anyway.

Solomon built a place for Molech.The cult of Molech was associated with child sacrifice.
7Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Molech the abomination of the Ammonites, on the mountain east of Jerusalem.
8And so he did for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods. (1 Kgs. 11:7-8)
Just because he wanted to cut a baby in half at some point of his life, it doesn’t make him pro-Life.
That was the truth as they understood it. And it’s still true.
Good point. For “pro-life” substitute, “opposed to murdering babies, other things being equal.”
If we look at King Saul instead of Solomon, he lost his kingship because he kept alive the animals of the Amelikites - but followed God’s orders through Samuel to kill the babies.
And then Moses ordered all the boy babies killed among the Midianites - just keep the virgin girls.
And the “bitter water” ordeal in Numbers for a woman suspected by her husband of adultery sounds remarkably like an abortifacient.
Please note: I am both a Christian and pro-life but these Old Testament passages are trials of my faith. I give God a pass on the killing of the Egyptian first-born - we are all his to take, after all. But making his people an instrument of slaughter, not only of armed men, but of children?
Matthew Henry’s commentaries on the Old Testament are very good.
Regarding Solomon, his summary of 1 Kings 11:
“Chapter 11
This chapter begins with as melancholy a “but” as almost any we find in all the Bible. Hitherto we have read nothing of Solomon but what was great and good; but the lustre both of his goodness and of his greatness is here sullied and eclipsed, and his sun sets under a cloud. I. The glory of his piety is stained by his departure from God and his duty, in his latter days, marrying strange wives and worshipping strange gods, 1 Kgs. 11:4-8. II. The glory of his prosperity is stained by God’s displeasure against him and the fruits of that displeasure. 1. He sent him an angry message, 1 Kgs. 11:9-13. 2. He stirred up enemies, who gave him disturbance, Hadad (1 Kgs. 11:14-22), Rezon, 1 Kgs. 11:23-25. 3. He gave away ten tribes of his twelve, from his posterity after him, to Jeroboam, whom therefore he sought in vain to slay (1 Kgs. 11:26-40), and this is all that remains here to be told concerning Solomon, except his death and burial (1 Kgs. 11:41-43), for there is nothing perfect under the sun, but all is so above the sun.”
RM I really believe this author meant to say “King Solomon” in the title but for some reason said “King Saul” by accident. Can we modify the title to show this? Thanks.
