Pope Francis on Sunday urged Christians and Muslims to promote mutual respect , especially through the education of new generations. His remarks came at the end of his Angelus address when he sent greetings to Muslims throughout the world who have just celebrated the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.

The word celebrate is so loaded and dishonest.... there is no time for ramadam in the roman catholic church- conflicts with all the veneration saints days and feasts...

If the Pope is not “reaching out” to the homo movement, he’s pushing for common ground with rabid creatures that make baboons looks relatively civilized.

Pull it together Pope Francis.

LOL pope! Respect the greatest anti-truth, anti-freedom, anti-individual, anti-live collective in the history of civilization?

My guess is Moslems will never respect Christians. They will always revel in dead ones.

>>>But we should still love our enemies.>>>

I once heard a priest explain the above statement in this way: We cannot love all our enemies. We sometimes even have neighbors we cannot like. What God requires of us is to love the soul he has created. He even said that we do not have to allow them to keep harming us. All came clear to me with that statement.

Did the Pope just declare JIhad on mudslimes?

It's the same level of respect they give us. That is the definition of MUTUAL.

I am watching the movie about the monks who moved to a housing project in Ireland. It is a reminder that God changes lives on His timetable.

Today’s readings were about having faith and not being afraid.

As St. Francis has said, “preach the Gospel, but also when possible use words.”

I think his remarks were more directed toward Muslims than Christians. It’s Muslims who are not tolerant toward other faith traditions, and want to kill those ‘infidels’.

I thought well of this new Pope and have, incident after incident lost those good thoughts.

Same here. No good thoughts anymore. It's called discernment.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. [John 14:6]

And he thinks they'll listen why?

He needs to lead by example, by starting in Syria with open arms to the Koranimals over there. Then we’ll see...

My point exactly. If a Baptist leader would draw legitimate criticism for offering “mutual respect” to earth goddess worshippers, even more should any professed Christian leader expect to draw much harsher criticism for a brotherly embrace with Islam. It’s like trying to impress Old Scratch with your fiddle playing. It may make for some fine entertainment, but in the end it won’t be nearly as much fun as the song.

What repulsive theology. They basically deny that there is no salvation outside of Jesus Christ, but offer it to Muslims who allegedly venerate the same God as we do.

First, I think your priest friend is at least partly wrong, assuming we are only talking about our human enemies. Paul says we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but powers and principalities in high places. If jihadists are monsters, they are but the Frankenstein creations of an even greater horror, and that being is our true enemy.

As for my fellow humans, even the worst of them, I do not read where Jesus grants waivers to His mandate: We are to love our enemies. It’s not optional. But we cannot love our enemies in the power of our own flesh. Only God’s Spirit can put that supernatural kind of love in our hearts.

But yes, I agree that we cannot allow ourselves to be duped into becoming weaklings and doormats in the name of love. That would be a false love. Even Jesus told his disciples to go about armed, after a point. Defense of self and family is a good thing and a Christian duty.

But there are many behind the lines, in the hardest evangelism battlefields of the world, taking daily risks to bring the Gospel to those living under the darkness of Islam. These are among Christianity’s bravest and most effective soldiers, and they are driven by love, not hate:

Luke 10:2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

OK; how about this site?

Catholic Bishop: Christians and Muslims together can bring peace to the world

It's a Catholic website quoting a Catholic bishop who refers to the month of Ramadan as "this holy month". What's your defense for that? Or do you think it's a holy month also?

This is a foolish comment. The Pope’s comment has nothing to do with Islam and everything to do with Catholics and other Christians living in terror within Muslim communities. You are probably unaware of the decimation of Christians in Iraq, what is happening in Egypt and Syria, and Christian persecution in the Indonesia, the largest Islamic country in the world.
