Should not the word of God be capable of speaking for itself? God being able to swear by none higher than Himself, must re-affirm, and in His own Grace and Mercy, again repeats Himself. Is the scripture the Word of God --- or is it not? Did the Word become flesh? Yes or no?

The 5 solas arose as descriptive, needing best be understood as also reactive to RC errors of that time in both RCC presentation and practice as towards the Gospel. None of the solas was ever envisioned to be simply "alone", in that they all hung together as part of both an overall approach (a solution set, if you will) to what was clearly enough perceived as a big set of inter-locking errors, with those errors also being mutually dependent, hence the solas could bring into view both the "problem" and solutions, briefly condensing much other wide ranging discussion and disagreement into brief expression.

Now as far as I can tell, many of the principles focused upon by the Reformers, are still having affect upon theology as it may be understood and put into practice right where it counts the most --- inside Christians themselves, continuing to challenge certain aspects of Romanism even within the RCC itself, when that church can be from time to time brought out of it's own navel-gazing, self-induced trances, allowing possibility for itself to returning to it's own roots. Viva La' Reformation.
