It is a silly claim. There is no solid evidence that the papal mitre was used before about the 10th century, and it probably originated in Rome. The dagon cult was an ancient Middle Eastern cult, and I doubt there were many dagon believers waiting to be converted in 10th century Rome. Even if the hat resembles a dagon hat, there is no link between the two nor any implied worship of an ancient fish god.

Of course not. Nor are any of the other pagan beliefs, vestments, and symbols used by the RCC. Its all just a coincidence. Right?
